I am in orchestral French horn player. Having just one device carry my entire sheet music library is a godsend. I have thousands and thousands of pieces of music loaded onto my iPad and I’m able to retrieve it in it tap. And then I take notes on my iPad with the pencil. But there is no way I’m upgrading to the M4, all of my accessories cease to work.

I don't believe the power will benefit you either. The pencil is sad because one can't charge it because the KZreadrs were all in arms about the position of the camera. For you who used the iPad as an iPad, it was inconsequential. So Apple gave them what they wanted, but had to move the magnets and charging around.

  • @ebuke

@@jaimeduncan6167You do know that was an Apple decision to promote spending money on the new iPads and right? Don’t go blaming KZreadrs for asking for something that almost everyone wanted. The camera needed to move. Apple could have easily put the magnetic connectors on the portrait side where the camera was, but that would be too easy and user friendly, keeping backwards compatibility. They instead opted to create a new pencil to sell the new iPads.

Fellow (amateur) French horn player and also conductor of an amateur wind band :-) I ordered the 13" Pro over the 13" Air because of OLED as I have to use it quite often outside in sunny conditions. This is my first iPad so the question if an upgrade is worth it, is not relevant for me. Would have loved to try the nano-texture display, but the price difference when forced to buy the 1TB is just ridiculous. You can store plenty of sheet music and scores on 256GB, so it's a complete overkill.

I'm an accomplished amateur classical pianist. I currently have a 2018 3rd generation iPad Pro. It's permanent home is the music rack on my 7'5" Grand Piano. It's dedicated to run the Henle and forScore music apps for reading music scores. Everything I play or would want to sight read and play is on my iPad Pro. I love it. On May 15 I will be picking up my pre-purchased 2024 1TB iPad Pro and Apple Pencil Pro. I upgraded solely for the larger brighter 13" OLED screen. As my iPad Pro is dedicated to reading piano music scores, screen size and screen quality are of paramount importance.

I’m in an individual with a physical disability. I have tried to use MacBooks but keyboards can be difficult for me to use so I prefer a touchscreen and the portability of an iPad Pro so my 11 inch M4 iPad Pro arrives tomorrow and I can’t wait. I may eventually even get the magic keyboard because it is still lighter and easier to move around

I’m challenged with different eyesight abilities and have moved on to the iPad Pro and am finding the visuals are much improved which leaves me with less eye strain. I’m grateful to apple as years spent straining to see the screen has been rather awkward and painful. The colours are more vibrant, the blacks are blacker. The difference is astounding, I Havant purchased the Smart Keyboard yet due to cost. However I did purchase the smart keyboard for my previous iPad Pro this again was a bast the back lighting on the keyboard was fantastic, which I’m hoping will be the same on the new iPad Pro 4 2024. All said I understand how important it is to get things right when you have different needs. Good luck.

As a full time iPad user, I 100% agree with you regarding the limitation of the OS. I use my iPad Pro as a laptop replacement. It runs Da Vinci Resolve, Lightroom, File Management (File Apps needs a lot of work), Meetings, Conferences, Photography classes and also my multimedia device while on the go. Reason why I decided to go to an iPad Pro is because of its form factor and all in one aspect. While yes, having a MacBook Pro was more powerful and less limiting, it was a pain to carry the MacBook Pro, Wacom Tablet and bigger battery banks when travelling for photography tours and etc. Every gram I can save will just save my back and pocket from paying extra carrying on per trip. So yeah, the new iPad Pro 13 M4 is a welcome addition to my business and I am so keen to see the improved thermal and computing performance from this iPad Pro. Just to an answer to your question in the video :)

Apple has the same problems, Microsoft had with Surface and Windows 8. MacOs is not ready to be used with touch input, and most of it's apps or programs arn't either. That means an iPad with keyboard/touchpad would work fine, one without it not at all.

@@user-cr6ki4qs4y Yes I did, but I ended up returning it. The Nano-texture display was nice to use when doing photoshoots outdoor. However, I did notice the lost of contrast and blacks not being as deep. In a way, it felt like using a Mini LED Panel - so it’s not terrible by any means, but you can definitely notice the difference from a traditional OLED Display. Also, my finger tips felt a bit roughened up after sliding my fingers on the Matte display after swiping throughout the day when previewing and showing clients photos. All together, this led me to returning the iPad Pro w Nano-Texture and bought the standard glass. I just use a magnetic matte screen protector if I need to reduce glare or for that “paper like” experience with the Apple Pencil. Personally, the Nano-Texture wasn’t’ for me when using a device that requires me to touch it 90% of the time.

I'm getting the 2TB model (cause I hate carrying external drives) and of course the magic keyboard & pencil pro, so it's a pricey decision haha. I travel and work outdoors but also do my media consumption at night. I'm curious as to how the nano screen looks with dim or no room lighting. Does it still show less contrast and not have inky blacks as the glossy? 🤔

I model my products on a 2018 iPad Pro in Shapr3D. It's served me well for a long time now but in the last year I've noticed the more complex the model the more you start to experience lag. I believe the main issue being lack of RAM to store the complex geometries and history of the changes made to them (the app recently went fully parametric which is more taxing) Opening the same files on my M2 Max Studio in Shapr3D for Mac I see no lag (64GB RAM obviously helps) So the upgrade to the new iPad Pro was a pretty easy decision for me.

As a music teacher an iPad could be fantastic, but since most programs I need still only have Windows and macOS versions it‘s completely useless. I would love to only take such a small and versatile device with me and it works very well to view notations, etc., but I‘d need all the software to write such notation sheets as well like the full version of GuitarPro and that‘s just not available. Not all companies will develop iPadOS-versions, so as long as they don‘t allow macOS on iPads or find some other way to at least run macOS-programs within iPadOS (which shouldn’t be too hard now that it’s the same SOCs powering both device types) it won‘t do the job for me. It‘s all right there, Apple!

The software is the same too. Same Mach microkernel, same system libraries, and the UIKit and AppKit both compile and run on top of them. The _only_ difference is that you don’t have a keyboard and mouse attached by default. But iPad supports them. So why not be able to run full versions of Logic or Final Cut or XCode? Why not have the same apps detect whether you have a keyboard and mouse attached and adjust input method accordingly?

I have both the 2020 12.9" IPP and the M2 11" IPP. I bought the 2020 to be my primary art device. I was using big enough canvases on some of my art programs that I experienced crashes more often than I expected, which is partially why I upgraded to the 11" IPP with M2 which has more RAM in addition to the better processor. The other reason I upgraded was to have a more portable drawing tablet that I would take with me everywhere. Carrying around the 12.9 was sometimes just a pain, but the slightly smaller 11", even though the size difference isn't that big, makes a huge difference in portability. But I digress a bit. I expected to still use the 2020 from time to time for some of my art projects because I would want the larger screen, but so far, I have not worked on any projects on the 2020. The snappiness of the M2 makes it so much better to use overall, and I haven't experienced any apps crashing yet. As an artist, I am intrigued by the new Pencil Pro, and especially the barrel roll, which looks like it could really improve some art flows, and I'm also interested in the brighter screen for the 11" making it more convenient to use outdoors. But, I don't think the M4 otherwise has anything I would want for my art that the M2 doesn't already provide. And those two features are definitely not worth 1k plus having to buy the new Pencil just for the base model.

I have the M1 12.9 pro and have ordered the M4 13 for delivery tomorrow just because I want OLED to watch my content and it’s a bit thinner and lighter, faster chip is a bonus, we don’t all have to justify having to use the M4 to its fullest to upgrade. It can be one little thing that tempts you and hey you only live once so if you are in 2 minds about getting it like I was. Just order it.

Would you upgrade from a 12.9 M1 to 11 M4 for 250EUR difference? I am considering it due to motion blur/better contrast, landscape face id (i hate it when I have to lift my ipad when i am lying down sideways) and weight. 12.9 is great for exactly what i use it for but also very bad for everything else, I feel like I would much prefer a jack of all trades this time.

I feel like the one thing apple had to do to make people like the new iPad Pro a lot more (not even reviews) was to NOT make it thinner. No one, absolutely no one, complained about the iPad being thicker than it should. If the M4 was so efficient, why not keep the original thickness and just stuff more battery in? It’s almost like the design team has a faction that constantly argues to make the iPad a hang-on-the-wall art piece and compromises on practicality to do so.

I am on a first or 2nd gen iPad (one with a button), so it just about does a version of sidecar, but it's super glitchy. Also, my 2016 Macbook Pro often gets a groan when people pick it up because it weighs about the same as a small child, so i want something light to take around with me. As someone wants to draw with procreate (and because all my other kit is SO old!) The M4 feels like a worthwile upgrade... Light Great keyboard (although the ESR alternative is lighter and more versitile) The new pencil with find my, haptics, hover and barrel roll is a real quality of life improvement for my illustration And 120hz refresh again is way better for latency on the pencil when illustrating. And bonus, camera is in the right place. And luckily i can get the entry level one cuz i dont need storage, extra cores or nano texture displays. However... If you're not illustrating, and mainly using it with a keyboard or on its own, Any of the older verson will do right down to the 10th gen ipad. And you can get a clip on web cam to fix camera placement on older models or use an iphone). I am hopeful for a better file management system though. Macbooks are still superior on that front.

In saying that I have the iPhone 14 Pro Max and above 30% brightness I don’t really notice it due to DCI dimming. Do think the same applies to this iPad?

As a professional musician who actually uses an iPad Pro for my job everyday, I honestly would rather use an iPad than a MacBook for 99% of my own personal work. The ability to use the pencil to add edits to sheet music while using ForScore which keeps 11,000 pieces of music at a tap, and the ability to remove it from the keyboard and place on a music stand while adding Bluetooth foot pedals to turn pages along with not having to ever worry about the battery is invaluable to me. I use Logic Pro to record, and it is actually very intuitive once you adapt to it, and it seamlessly communicates with my recording interface without having to worry about drivers or compatibility issues. I understand that everyone’s use case will be different, but the gatekeeping about what counts as “real work” can get a tiny bit frustrating. A laptop just isn’t as useful for me, so having a future proof machine with the ability to adapt to my own needs is invaluable. Your mileage ay vary to be sure, but as a professional musician/classical guitar professor the iPad Pro is my dream device.

OLED, Dolby Atmos support and Apple TV with all my 4K movies is a perfect match for what I need.

Thing about filming an OLED and LCD at the same time is that yeah they will differ and usually more so through a camera. Also the LCD in question is I guess apprx two years and has seen some use, meaning it will have drifted some. It'll be interesting to see how this new kind of OLED handles drifting, seeing as the tech is notorious for doing just that.
