The mini 6 looks really good. However I’ve had my mini 5 since Christmas 2019 and it’s still really good! I plan on keeping that for as long as I can (basically until it stops getting iOS support) which is not gonna be for awhile!

@@MyVidMix highly recommend you get the second gen 12.9 as my first gen is really starting to show its age on iPadOS 15. The A9X doesn’t support 4K KZread and many other basic features. The screen is great, but the A9X is underpowered to handle it today.

Lighting port is the only thing super outdated about the design. Touch ID home button, curved back, large top and bottom bezels aren’t too outdated tbh.

@@sonymicronin You forgot the liquid retina display with better color performance, touch to wake, flashlight, and Apple Pencil 2. It's not that outdated since the base model iPad is still using this classic design. However, since I've been using the 2018 iPad Pro at the same time, the difference in the user experience is noticeable. Now I feel like it's almost my iPad Pro just smaller without Face ID and keyboard. You're right about lightning. I enjoy using the same charger and USB-c dongle on my new mini 6, which is easy for me to use USB accessories. And, I can just swap iPads with the same Pencil 2 without the need for a Pencil 1.

I currently have the mini 5, I personally like the home button.. and where its placed, the only reason id feel like i would need to upgrade is the stereo sound and maybe larger screen. This is just my multi media go to, some zoom.. but mainly youtube and spotify.. gaming not so much but call of duty on the mini 5 looks and plays great. My son is always using it to play games. Still love my mini5..

Great comparison video! I actually checked out the new mini 6 at Best Buy last night and I have to say I was impressed….it is a little smaller than I would’ve liked but it feels great in the hands. Great screen with higher ppi than even the most expensive iPad Pro, which to me is noticeable. I went ahead and pre-ordered a mini as I do think these will be flying off the shelves. I have owned several larger iPads including one 10.5 inch iPad Pro but the bigger size just never worked for me so I’m back to the mini and I’m happy with all the awesome updates. I do think a 9 inch iPad mini would be perfect, 8.3 is a little bit small.

The sharp nice edges on the new mini 6 are very good, but Idk why I really love the old rounded edges on the mini 5

I have a Mini 5 and there's nothing that I do on it that's slow. I use TV, Notes, Reminders, Web Browsing, Email, Calendar, Podcasts, iBooks, Garmin Connect, Google Maps and a few banking programs and I better performance is nice but having something respond a few tenths of a second faster doesn't make any difference in the real world.

Our daughter took my iPad mini 5 and I've been without one for a couple of month. I was holding out for a 7 but the 7 could be this fall, next spring or 2026. I played around the the mini 6 and it's nice. If they ship a mini 7 this fall, then I'll eventually get that as my wife could use one as well, but, ideally, I'll wait for it to get discounted too.

I have an iPad 5, got it about 2-3 months ago. Was wondering when the IPad 6 would have come out. Very happy with the 5th generation, yet it’s slightly annoying that they said absolutely nothing about the impending release/possible specs so I could compare the two.

I was going to buy it, but they removed the 3.5mm jack and that's a deal breaker for me (I was going to use it for music production, bluetooth does not work here) Plus they removed the Pencil#1 support. So in this case one should buy some external audio interface or an adapter with ability to charge. Plus a new pencil#2. So it already increases the base price...

You can get a usb c hub that has a charging port, hdmi, 3.5mm jack and a usb-A port for about $50 on eBay. It attaches to the bottom of ipad

Same here. It’s a nice Purple. Glad i didn’t go for the space grey. I love the 4K video it’s so smooth. The only thing I miss from the mini 5 is the Touch ID location. But obviously with the new design it had to be moved.

Although - if the processors is a lot better I could be persuaded to upgrade if Video Editing is better. This could be a disruptive product; more so that the iPad Pro releases. How does it compare to the IPad Pro say on Luma Fusion - I suspect there would not be too much difference. Now that would be an interesting comparison?

Pad Mini 6 was so bad compared to iPad Mini 5 that I had to return it to Apple. Mini 6 is worse on many levels. (1) It's heavier. (2) It's much less comfortable to keep in hands because of the nasty sharp edges. (3) It has a different screen size ratio. It's has a longer display but also less wide! (it has bigger bezels on the long side than the old one) That makes me feel all is smaller on the screen, that's especially terrible in landscape mode. (4) The worst thing is the new location of physical buttons. In the landscape mode during gaming, I very often press by accident the button switching off the display. It is located on the left lower edge which is very easy to press in the landscape mode and to interrupt the game. I really tried to get used to the new Mini6 for almost 2 weeks, I could not. It was returned to Apple with a detailed explanation of the mentioned issues.

The issue for me is the screen pixel density…. My first iPad was the original mini when it first came out. Loved it. It fit in my inside jacket pocket, making it relatively easy to carry, and at the time I had no iPhone so carrying it was important as my only IOS device. But my eyesight isn’t quite as sharp as it was 9 years ago, so when I finally replaced it in 2018, I moved up to the 9.7” iPad (went with the then recently discontinued 2017/5th Gen because a got a great deal on it). Love the regular iPad. Can’t carry it as easily, but since I have an iPhone now, that’s not a big issue. My wife went with the mini 4, and she loves it, but I do have a bit more difficulty reading one it. Yes, the Retina display helps, but for me, the larger screen iPads are the better option.

@@babacool81 The new Mini 6 has a longer/wider 3:2 aspect ratio screen, most apps at the moment are not optimized for this screen so you might get black borders on the top and bottom of the screen. The 4:3 screen is better specially if you use the tablet as a reader.

Agreed. Audio jack and home button are a great feature as I don’t plan to use the mini in a pool… or under it!

Same. Just upgrading my SE1 to an 8. Lol. The Mini 5 is the best computer I’ve ever owned. (inc older desktops & MacBooks). It’s a perfect lye back and chill device, as well as doing pretty powerful design stuff. I think I’ll upgrade mini when it gets under display Touch ID.

Worth the upgrade?? Boy howdy! My good old iPad mini with Retina display (iPad mini 2) still works fine for me, but it is getting a bit long in the tooth. It can't be upgraded past iOS 12. I got mine with the maximum memory (128 GB) because I expected to load it up with ebooks and ripped movies. It cost $699 with the maximum memory but no cellular (a decision I've regretted ever since). No previous 'new' iPad mini has felt worth the upgrade. My new iPad mini will cost $799 with the maximum memory (256 GB) and this time WITH cellular (5G, no less), that fast A15, Apple Pencil 2(!) support, stereo speakers, much better cameras, Center Stage, Touch ID, USB-C AND it comes in PURPLE?! Upgrading is a no-brainer this time.

The ipad mini 5 feels faster because it doesn't have the jelly scrolling in portrait mode. Jelly scrolling makes everything feel choppy on the mini 6. If you press too hard with the apple pencil the lcd ripples as well. It's thicker too. I'm not sure why anyone would get the mini 6 honestly. Skip this one. I've purchased the mini 6 twice out of desperation and just can't get past how laggy it feels. The whole point of buying Apple is the smooth UI and they killed this for some reason.

Well users are now reporting about an iPad mini 6 display issue, such as rolling shutter effect (jello effect) while scrolling pages especially in portrait...
