Iowa: Blown Tires, Missed Setups, and Charter Talk

Спорт

Denny Hamlin and Jared Allen are back from Iowa, and they are ready to dive into Denny's challenges he overcame with his car during the Iowa Corn 350. They also discuss the track conditions and the impact the repave had on the race. They explore the strategic decision of staying out during cautions and its potential to dramatically alter track position. They then analyze the performances of other drivers, notably Kyle Larson and Ryan Blaney. Denny then dissects the Final Four in the bracket challenge, and the upcoming races at New Hampshire.
Denny also brings up Sam Mayer's performance in the Xfinity race and his promising future in NASCAR. Will he be a driver we see on Sundays?
The conversation then transitions to the charter talks in NASCAR and the formidable challenges faced by the teams. The episode concludes with a #DearDenny fan review and an adorable pup-date on Lulu!
What will Lulu's DNA test reveal?

I definitely don't cheer for Denny on Sunday. BUT, I think he is one of the most important, most fair, most well-informed voices in NASCAR, and the hate he gets for having an opinion is ridiculous. I do look forward to this podcast because I like hearing what he has to say about the sport. But I'm also cheering if he finishes last lol

I have followed NASCAR for as long as I have (1979) because it was 1 of 2 domestic racing series I have had access to for most of my life. Fast forward to the early 2000s and bit-torrents opened up almost unlimited access to racing from all around the world if you knew how to find it. Fast forward to today and you can find live streams for almost any racing event around the world along with sites that provide replays of almost any race much sooner than the networks provide. I say all because it would not be an issue for me personally if NASCAR disappeared entirely and given the drama around these negotiations, it's hard not to hope it does. I love racing, not NASCAR and the Frances need to understand that. I'll support NASCAR as long as they support the drivers but have no issue swapping it out for Australian Supercars if they don't. Rant off...

The counter to Denny's thought that Roger Penske "did the teams a solid" by taking a less lucrative deal for the league itself is that Roger Penske owns teams too. At worst, Penske gave himself a stronger platform to sell to his own teams' sponsors to.

The big owners have enough clout that they could just form their own series and they have all the best drivers and teams, so guess who the fans would watch? The new series with the best drivers. NASCAR doesn't have the leverage they think they do. If the big names left and formed their own series, NASCAR would be pretty much done.

The regular season Champion should get a much bigger incentive than just 5 playoff points. Keep 2nd through 10th the same, but give the Champion 20 maybe 25 playoff points. This will almost guarantee that the regular season champ will be in the Championship race.

Charter: A very expensive and temporary pass that allows you to have a car in the field for a cup race. (Intended to prevent start at parks and random car owners from entering buying their way into and qualifying for random races usually higher purse value for last place which allowed them to earn money without the risk or trashing thier car, and preventing full time teams from running that are making bigger investments thus in turn shortening the field from 43 to 39. ( i forgot the reasoning behind that one some of the same matter)) ' charters being used out side of the intended purpose is misunderstood relevance and kind of a scam (tho involvig moeny pay outs now and what not i dk exactly) to the long term car owners that have been ther forever... RCR Hendrick GIBBS Penski Roush, to name the most recent . and turning them into something their not. atleast thats how i remember it when it was a topic of issue way back when... I don' tlike the charters. because at one time when i was into racing buying my way into nascar was at the time my only hope and goal.. i gave that up after the charter thing... no guy with a few bucks will ever be able to enter the cup series now.

You can't sell something you don't own. Nascar is getting $0 from the buying or selling of charters. What Denny is advocating for is an NFL style deal where the owners control the sport through a league office. But these owners could strong arm Nascar now if they wanted too, All they would have to do is come together and start shopping a new league to networks. It would be great to see spending caps and equally funded race teams compeat.

Can anyone say, “Supercars North America”. Chevy and Ford already have supercars, I assume Toyota and/or Honda could build one in a year or two if they wanted to. They would need to change the track mix; Supercars are 100% road courses but there isn’t any reason why they can’t be 2/3 oval if they come here. I’m not saying this is likely, or probable, just “conceivable”. The NASCAR teams need to start sounding like it is a viable option, as long as the France family believe the teams have no other option, the teams will always be treated as second class members at the table.

@@jsmr451I’m guessing he’s talking about the Australian Supercars series? They run Mustangs and Camaros in similar spec builds to CUP series cars

I have thought the same thing with two Supercar drivers driving this season and the additional road courses. I hope at that point they would just create a new series.

@@jsmr451 The problem for the teams is they don’t have any leverage on NASCAR (The France Family), never have. The only way the teams will ever get a fair deal from NASCAR is if organizations like HMS, JGR and Penske have a viable alternative to the NASCAR Cup Series. Indy cars went through an ugly split In 1994. Indy car racing split between the established Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) and Tony George, who formed the Indy Racing League (IRL). Some would argue that Indy Car today is STILL recovering from the split. I’m not saying I like the idea, I just don’t know how the teams ever get any leverage without a reasonable alternative to the France Family

The whole NASCAR argument about maybe not having the money in the future is so dumb. Yes, as Denny says, A PERCENTAGE. You ask for a set percentage of the revenue. If NASCAR does well, everyone does well. And this gives incentive to EVERYONE to do what they can to promote the sport and make it stronger. Just BS prepared talking points to try to make it sound like everything hinges on if NASCAR gets a good TV deal in the future or not.

I think it's stupid to only repave one lane. Why do it all if you're not going to do it all. Incompetence & being cheap to their own detriment .

Idk why every dirty MO show references the tear down....that has to be the worst NASCAR podcast there is. I want to hear about the race....not two guys arguing with each other the whole show. Also DBC is starting to be that way. Maybe get rid of the part time spotter who thinks he knows more than every one and find another full time guy for that shoe
