    Irina, I really appreciate your work, including this jogless sewn BO technique! I used to look at various knitters for instruction videos, but now I only look to you - you have the cleanest, most innovative, & easy-to-follow techniques. I struggled through your early silent instruction videos, and want to add that your English is now great - you've learned very quickly! I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

    It's taken me the best part of the afternoon and evening, but with your brilliant tuition, I've got it!!! What do I like? You go slowly. You explain clearly. You don't assume I knew anything about this technique before now. The camera view is perfect. You constantly show how the work looks. You show very very clearly where to put the needle. You repeat the process several times, so that I was able to keep working through the steps without having to rewind the video after each sequence. I have now completed the neck of the gansey I am making, and I'm delighted with the result. Thankyou

    Wow at first I was like “this is so complicated how on earth am I going to do this” but your instructions were so clear and you also explained why we were doing things (for example: doing purl on a knit because it was the first time, and such) and the yarn you used was so easy to see. And now the edge on my sweater is so clean and just perfect!!!!!!! Thanks!

    Brilliant, thank you! It looked complicated at first, but the video made it easy to learn in no time. I will definitely use this again. I found it easier to memorise if I flipped the wrong side out in every other stitch. Then you'll always connect the next two knit stitches - sometimes side by side, sometimes over purl stitches. The most difficult part was to "find" the dropped stitches. A lifeline in contrasting sewing thread helped to point and pull them out

    Usually your tutorials are very clear to me. For this one, unfortunately, I was unable to use your technique. Taking the stitches half done of the needle was the issue - with thick yarn it might work but with thin yarn I couldn't find the right leg to pick up and evertything messed up. Finally I put left stitches on one needle and wright stitches on second and worked like kitchener stitch

    Thick yarn is great for practicing, though. I practice techniques with thick white cotton - it shows all mistakes. Once I "get" it, then I can repeat with any yarn. Thank you for watching my videos!

  • @irinarevo

    Thank you for an interesting question! I haven’t tried yet, but will look into it. Meanwhile, an easy way might be to switch from K1P2 (or any other rib) to one round of K1P1 and do a tubular bind off for rib 1x1. It looks very good. Please check out the Bind Offs playlist for Tubular bind off for rib 1x1. :)

    Hi Gabriela, I think this bind off is medium stretchy (a bit less stretchy than the invisible 2x2 cast-on). If the neck opening is very narrow (like in a tight turtleneck) - it might not suit.

    Oh wow, this is brilliant. Thank you so much. Is this adaptable for 2x2 tubular bind-off for flat knitting? I'm about to start binding off for the hem of a cardigan, so the pattern is 2x2 rib with one extra knit stitch on either side for the button band pickup. If you have any advice on how to apply this method it would be appreciated. I think just the set-up and final stitches would be different, but I can't seem to visualize it. Thank you :)

    Thank you, Julie! Check out my playlist: RIBBING - all knitting tips, tricks and techniques. kzread.info/head/PLemrxm_bPteU5xrHEsilVefg-9kE3erB4 I have tubular and non-tubular 2x2 there, mostly in the round though. There is one video that is flat 1x1 where you can view three options for the set-up/start. So you can start the first stitches like I show and continue as a 2x2. I hope it will help.

    Hello , thank you for this video but i am struggling with step 3: you are inserting the needle from right to left in both stitches , why is the first knitwise , i see purlwise ?

  • @irinarevo

    @irinarevo

    6 ай бұрын

    Hi! The 1st knit stitch - insert front to back/knitwise, the 2nd knit stitch - back to front/purlwise. (When a knit stitch sits on a needle facing left, then inserting the tapestry needle from left to right would be knitwise, as if you are going to knit. If you take the same knit stitch off the needle - the stitch is now facing you (instead of facing left), so you can say for the same movement "front to back".) Hope this helps.

    Thank you for the video, the bind- off is beautiful. If I am working with two strands of aran weight yarn held double, would you recommend using just one, or both strands for the bind -off? Also , do you recommend going down a needle size on the last round of ribbing prior to casting off?

  • @irinarevo

    @irinarevo

    I am so glad you like it, Amanda! I usually use the same yarn thickness for b/o and the same needle size for the last round. If there are no problems with the yarn, such as heavy texture for example, I wouldn’t change anything.

  • @irinarevo

    @irinarevo

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, after you finished the 4x2 rib you can switch to a 1x1 rib and do a tubular bind-off. For example, I show in this video how to switch from a 2x2 to a 1x1 and do a tubular bind off: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fWp4maOCnK24qMo.html The 1x1 rib will be almost invisible and you will get a neat tubular edge.

    Hello, thank you for your questions! I think, I should make a video on that as it's difficult to explain with words. One easy way would be to work the very last round as a regular 2x2 rib and bind off like in this video. It would match with an Italian c/o: I made recently one sweater neck with a twisted 1x1 double sided rib (both knit and purl stitches) - I did Italian c/o, 1st row regular, started twisted from the second round. It's not as "sharp" defined as a twisted from the start, but looks very neat. I will plan to make a video for the twisted 2x2 from c/o to b/o.

    Try to practice on thick white cotton first to see the stitches clearly. You can also slow down the video. If you have trouble finding the purl stitches (if that's what I think the difficulty is): on the wrong side they look like knit stitches. When binding two purl stitches try to flip the edge down to see the wrong side better, and look at this as binding "two knit stitches", but on the wrong side. Hope this helped.

    That’s right, not for heavily textured yarn. But if still desired, a matching colour/weight smoother yarn can be used as it will be almost invisible. I showed the effect in the "Salvaged Yarn" video.
