Interesting Fact: In one of the earlier drafts of the Beetlejuice movie script, there was going to be an origin story to how Beetlejuice died (let's just say that he was drunk and couldn't figure out how to adjust a noose well). So, it's kinda (probably unintentionally) powerful writing-wise that he would prevent Lydia from dying in a similar way, albeit the musical version of him has a different backstory since he’s a demon instead of a powerful ghost. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m not sure if Brightman does it this way, but I saw a TikTok where the other BeetleJuice voice actor said how he did it. The actor has a small white microphone on his head, it’s the same shade of white as his face paint so you won’t notice it unless you’re looking for it. Every BeetleJuice line is actually being whispered, and the microphone amplifies his voice.

I love all of the allusions to the stage play you have in this. The character design, removing the scalp on “Assassinate!”, having BJ’s hand speak for Lydia when he’s trying to convince her, how the Maitlands end their possession dance. Just a great animatic and adaptation all around.

This is both super accurate in that BJ looks like BJ's actual actor, yet you added a further level of expressiveness and really got the zany energy I associate with both the musical and cartoon versions captured in this. I love it. If they ever make another animated series they need you to do the character designs.

Hazbin Headcanon: This was Adam's fate after his (rather humorous) demise at Nifty's hands. After perishing in Lute's arms, his soul stayed in hell and was reborn as the demon "Beetlejuice". Now in his sinner form, he obviously can't go back to Heaven and due to his previous status as an exterminator, Hell won't accept him. So he's stuck wandering the earth as a ghastly spectre, a shell of his former self. He looks exactly like his angel appearance, just more unkempt, disheveled, and raggedy. His power is now also just a mere fraction of what it once was, to fully regain it, he just needs a mortal to say his name thrice with no interjection. Unfortunately, for someone who always had the spotlight in heaven, nobody on earth could even see him. There was absolutely zero chance Beetlejuice could get his power back, until a certain family moved into that old crooked house on the hill. I mean, it doesn't make much sense but TELL ME you don't see Adam singing this song and find it hilarious. Probably why he's acting so desperate too.

I'd just like to say that "on the roof" looked EXACTLY like what I constantly picture and crack up at every time I hear that song. Like he's a sad dramatic man who just wants friends to accept his weirdness HAHAHA Agh YES the whole animatic is so amazing! That's totally what I pictured/what the show looks like! All the expressions and scenes are so varied and perfect, wow! You clearly spent a lot of time on this considering how many frames there are as well. So cool, thank you so much for sharing!!!

This is a beautiful thing. That animation of him on his knees and they’re going back and forth was really something. So many animatics don’t have their characters move around and this was a real treat. Also nice touch on that one size change at 2:18!

I think this is one of the best versions of Beetlejuice.

I love how this Beetlejuice is based off the original's appearance as well as the musical version's appearance, a sort of playful mesh of 2 awesome designs

This feels like a Disney movie but for mature audience

Okay, I came here knowing nothing about this musical, but all I gotta say is that I've known Beetlejuice for like, six minutes, and I'm already low-key soft for him. Apparently upon metting a potential friend, the first thing he does is try to come up with ways to kill the source of her problems, and I must say he got the spirit. He a little confused, but he got the spirit. (This must be the most impressive animation I've ever seen though! Everything about it is breathtaking!)

I love how much personality the characters have in this animatic, like you can really feel their emotions and the gestures they all do are just so AMAZING UGH

You know at anytime he could have won this musical back and forth until he decided to open his mouth and found out that he lost it at. 4:35. All the gestures he did 'even the begging' on his knees was for his own benefit in manipulation but this is where his truth and panic really came out.

The amount of emotion and flow put into this animatic is insane

The amount of detail in every single panel is INSANE!

This is the first animatic where they made Beetlejuice accurate instead of handsome.

I think this is the most accurate someone has drawn beetle juice

The part where BJ possess Adam and Barbra Is my favourite part of these songs.
