    I like the product but I think it could be used in a different way, for instance in order to hide an open window of a building in order to avoid snipers. I would not use it in a situation in which the enemy can come close, because one can recognized the rectangular shape of the item. So one possibility for improvement would be so make it in a more nature-like shape. What I find is a pity is that the person using it cannot see through it. It hides you from the enemy.. But it also hides the enemy from you, and that, in my opinion, makes it close to useless for a true emergency situation

    I would be really interested to see this in 4'x8' sheets like plywood! just imagine mounting several sheets of this in a way that the entire front of your home or building vanished, people, driving or walking by might completely overlook your property as long as all the visible sides are covered. Even just making a screen door out of this, could hide the entrance.

    "If you're influenced by me somethings wrong." Uhm, Nate? The world is going to hell in a hand basket. You're one of the saner voices in the community. Influencer you are and be, and we're damn glad to have you. And while I think this thing is neat, as an engineer, I also think it isn't quite ready. Dust and wind is a problem, and the fact that is has an up/down axis, and the blur it induces will restrict this to a small object. I am very curious how badly rain compromises it, and what happens in low light if it gets backlit at all. If it gets hit with light from the side, it will either keep working or just turn into a glow panel.

    I wonder how it would look as a cylindrical space that you can hide in, protecting yourself in 360 degrees... Ive seen this tech being shown off over the years and it definitely has a lot of tactical potential.

  • @Pencil0fDoom

    @Pencil0fDoom

    2 жыл бұрын

    It would not function in a cylindrical configuration. This grabs light from 45 degrees to the left & right behind the subject, and uses it to obscure that which is positioned orthogonally to the back of the viewing surface. If it were wrapped even 180 around a central point, the effect would be to smear your own image horizontally, magnifying and distorting you instead of rendering you invisible. Ive done a bunch of small scale experiments like this, using the deformable thin lenticular sheets from the light diffuser stack that you can find behind every flat screen device ever made.

    It is a big fresnel lens. A less refined version of the technology was applied as far back as the 1820s to enhance light house lights. Similar plastic sheets were used commercially in dlp rear projector tvs in the early 2000s, however they bend the light differently. more of a parabolic curve.

    I've seen these before but they were flexible like a blanket, no stand. The girl was wrapping it around her waist. I thought the red was supposed to be peeled off, surprised they use such a bold color on a product like this. There are youtube videos out there where they show you how to make these yourself but... it didn't look like something I could do myself. I think these invisibility shields are pretty cool, I'd like one

    It works at the vertical as the shield is Polarized, just like sunglasses. If it was a couple feet larger than your vehicle, you could use it to hide that, in let's say at the edge of an orchard or a field where the edges of the shield could meld into the surrounding vegetation. It's all about The Blending with The Shield. Just saying. We used to use something like this in the Navy called "Deceptive Lighting" out at sea. Totally different premise, but the same results.
