Invictus by W.E. Henley
🔰This was Nelson Mandela's favorite poem so it has a special place in our history. This channel has been "accused" of having a sad vibe, I guess most of the videos have a melancholic feel to them due to my personality. This poem and this edit are definitely more hopeful and I will grasp this opportunity to state, all I ever tried to express is that "it's ok to be sad" sometimes but the point is to survive the dark days. Be unbowed unafraid and unconquerable.

Invictus
BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Úžasné!! Nic pro ty vaše loutky, co si váma nechávají dobrovolně díky své slabosti ničit život... Navzdory všemu vás stále nechávám ničit ten můj, přestože se tolik let tak moc snažíte... A můžete si plácat ty svoje nesmysly o tom, jak lidem pomáháte... Vidím, že nepomáháte... Zanecháváte jenom spoušť a ve své slepotě jste falešné přesvědčení o své nadřazenosti.

@@illneas for me the closest place it resembles is the gritty part of Valencia Spain, where I used to spend all my high school summers. After it got really dark but the city was still buzzing I would take my shitty bike and explore the foreign city. @illneas Well, young master, you've done it again! Text, image, music, & editing, all beautifully crafted together to create something quite exquisite. That's another one that'll be on repeat! It's a very inspiring, powerful poem. Again, I love the way you avoid any predictable imagery - this time, I might anticipate images of hand to hand battle, swords n sandals, obvious heroic stuff in less talented hands. None of that. You're imagery is much more subtle. I see recurring themes are developing - candles being lit & extinguished. Animals, particularly cats. Native olive trees or, this time, pomegranate trees: ancient, mythic fruits. Just a fee wee questions, please? Where was it shot? Used to assume you lived in America, but are you actually living in Greece? What's behind your preoccupation with cats in many of your short films? What does that motif mean to you in the context of your art? I love you, man! Thank you for another inspiring gift. Οι θεοί να σας καθοδηγήσουν. Ποτε μην σταματας.

Hello again friend, I will avoid explaining things way to much, in fear of ruining it for you and everyone else. However the fact that I'm living in Greece is no secret, the movie was shot in Thessaloniki (iconic yellow night lights). Thank you for noticing in so much detail these themes and my subtle storytelling. The last thing that I will say in that most of the other videos out there seemed to me predictable as well, so this video was created. What a way to end your message with a Greek quote! Ευχαριστώ

@@illneas Hello to you too, my talented friend! So, you're giving nothing away. The cat remains an elusive motif which I will have to interpret for myself. How dare you place such faith in the imagination and intelligence of your viewers! How rude to encourage people to draw their own conclusions rather than spoon-feed them with clichés and single vision! You're a dangerous artist!😁😆😁😉... Sorry, I don't know why I assumed you lived in America (not that I would consider that an insult!). Your English is impeccable. I see Greeks are as partial to graffiti as Italians. The shots of fecund pomegranate trees remind me of trips back to visit family in Italy. Good times. You've used a shot of olives on the branch before. Just waiting for shots of figs and grapes to complete the quaternity of ancient Mediterranean fruits. Thank you again for another wonderful piece of art & your unfailing attempt to kindly address as many admirers as possible. I must remember to set up that sub/donation link. Great idea! PS. I forgot to say the second brief cameo shot - you in the window, cut from long to a revealing mid (the artist with camera) very quickly, is so perfectly timed with and exquisitely composed, I just love it. The first cameo on the steps, quite beautiful. I thought we were gonna get more cameos but, without a doubt, you know best! Είμαστε ειλικρινείς.

@@johnsrome8459 Hahaha, love the sarcasm. We, Greeks, have certainly a thing with painting in public places. Since I'm living in a city the Mediterranean plants will have to wait. In addition I don't see them as cameos ... more like scenes with the only actor I can afford right now. Don't worry about the donations, you have already supported this project with your input. I'll always answer to thought provoking comments don't worry. Thank you taking the time to write and for your continued support, it truly means a lot.

@@illneas Hi, bro. I'm glad you got the irony in my message. Yeah, graffiti in the Med. I don't have an opinion on it, just an observation, really. The point about cameos is rather sad in a way. You know I love you & your work, bro - it's sad to think that you don't have the resources to employ actors. In the meantime, the cameos are a great touch. Hey! For every successful (ie., well paid) actor, I bet there are a hundred with just as much talent but they simply never got the breaks. They are working in cafes, bars, petrol stations, on benefits, whatever. They would be glad of the exposure & will work for free. Ask around. I don't want to do the whole, "in light of my experience" thing. Boring!!! Just, trust me, I'm sure they are out there. You are exceptional. You deserve whatever is required to fulfill your vision. My very best wishes to you.

"Accused" of having a sad vibe...? LOL ! IMHO anybody with any intelligence and even a modicum of insight is aware that life itself is inherently melancholy. All that we love is transient by it's very nature and in the end we lose everything. Yet surely it's this very realisation that not only gives people and things their worth and deems them worthy of love but that makes our own life all the more precious? In the meantime.... Here we are again To summon this heavy nostalgia That miraculously survives As sweetly filters the melancholy Of popular songs P.S. Great channel my friend :)
My soul is his
Really well done intro. Where did you go to get it done?
it was the final statement , the Death poem of Timothy McVeigh "McVeigh died in character; that is, in control. Always the survivalist, he seemed to ration his remaining breaths. When, after four minutes, he was officially dead, his eyes were still open, staring into the camera recording him “live.” "
This is my girlfriend's favourite poem. Just yesterday I wrote a poem kind of stuff and I mentioned her favourite poem is this and I got your video in my feed today! Talk about coincidence!

I thought this was called Invictus? The order of stanzas in this poem is also moved around. Possibly my favourite poem ever, so I apologise if I seem nit-picky, but between this and removed sections from other poems I've begun to become frustrated to the point of unsubscribing. Meaningless I know, what's one more/less sub? Just comes across to me as a pattern of disrespect towards theses pieces of art. If that seems dramatic fair enough, just my two cents Edit: The title at the time of this comment was not Invictus, not that anyone will ever read this or care
