INVESTORS: A Master Class
A unique master class in which we explore the people and money behind some of Europe’s tech unicorns such as Spotify and Zalando.
We ask these successful investors and founders questions like:
What makes a billion dollar idea? When is the right time to raise Venture Capital? What makes a great founding team? How to talk to a VC? What does a great pitch deck look like?
What does the future of the tech industry look like?
You’ll hear from the following investors and founders:
Emma Tracey - Co-Founder & Ex CEO of Honeypot and Angel Investor
Claude Ritter - Co-Founder & Managing Partner of Cavalry
Filip Dames and Christian Meerman - Founding Partners at Cherry Ventures
Jonathan Becker - Partner at Headline
Staffan Helgesson and Simon Schmincke - General Partners at Creandum
Johan van Mil - Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Peak

Honeypot's idea is a common idea we hear across candidates but only few decide to execute it and only few investors are convinced to fund it, big props to everyone who contributed in building Honeypot.
23:30 "VCs don't like profitability". Is it really better to run your company for growth instead of profits? WeWork (among others) showed us it's not always the case...Also, this is not the only VC thesis around. A new breed of VCs (the Calm Capitalists as someone named them), has emerged (Earnest, Calm Fund just to name a few), who give bootstrappers an alternative way: not risking survival for growth. As a founder, shooting to the moon (and give away equity, round after round because you have to grow) is not always the only option, you might end up building a solid, profitable, long-lasting business 🙃 Great content Honeypot btw, thanks.

Fully agree with you. There are many ways to build great companies. With regard to my statement about profitability, I would argue that this is the case for 99% of VCs. Venture capital money is a tool that allows you to grow big faster. Not more, not less.

@@clauderitter3803 Thanks for replying. I'm with you. There's no right or wrong path. One has just to know that there are multiple ways...and even by bootstrapping and focussing on profits before growth, you can build multibillion dollar companies without giving away (too much) equity (think Zapier or Mailchimp).

Christmas came early!
29:40 Amen to that...
I can't out if this is great or terrible. I've been working as a developer or in product for 10 years in startups. All of these people are obviously successful but my response veers within the same minute between 'thats really insightful and explains so much about my experience from the other side' to 'i can believe these people can say these idiot hyperbolic clichés with a straight face'. Still, well done honeypot :)
This channel is underrated
