Investigation: Thousands of trees illegally felled to build IKEA’s flat pack empire
They're the largest manufacturer, buyer and retailer of wood on the planet. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
IKEA's factories consume more than 20 million cubic meters of wood a year. That works out as roughly one tree every second. The company tells consumers that the wood in its products comes from sustainable forests. But a major investigation by this programme and the environmental organisation Earthsight has discovered that some of the wood that ends up in Ikea's most popular products has been cut down illegally.
The wood comes from the lush forests of the Carpathian mountains on the border between Ukraine and Romania - where corruption and illegal logging is a growing problem. Tonight Ikea has launched an investigation into our findings.

As a consumer, you should perhaps refrain from shopping from Ikea in the future to show that they are doing wrong. As a consumer, you also have the right to know where the products come from.

Well, you are doing wrong to yourself if u buy some fucked up gluewood with pieces of wood that they call furniture. You do you. I bet if you start making furniture yourself you wouldn't start with buying some fucked up glueboard and put 2mm of white paint to it and then cut it into shape...

@@husqrok That's why I do not buy furniture there. People buy because it's easier than making their own " furniture". But if they invest time to learn some new skills, then no more IKEA

Who do you think buys that wood ;) IKEA owns the largest area of forest in Romania
I went to ikea once and saw how they cattle trot people through the store. I've worked on cattle farms and herded plenty of cow's just like that. Never went back. Not surprised.

From Finland. No, this has been going on for a good long time. Theres videos years ago about the same logging fuckery. Well, trees can and should be cut down. But if done in this way, oh well. Try to film the truckers gathering the logs and leaving the site... They want no pictures be taken.
It should be the Armed Forces role first and foremost to protect their own lands.
it never stops, so depressing
There is no environment with out the trees.

Ikea Forest Thieves. Lets not forget Schweihofer either. And those that let it happen.
La gente quiere decorar su casa a modo low cost, renovar el inmobiliario cada 5 años....y no se dan cuenta que su casa es su planeta. Que horrible esta sociedad del consumo
Why no one check how many trees are planted for 1 cutt?
