Investigating The Crash On Board Flight 529 | A Wounded Bird | Mayday: Air Disaster
Ойын-сауық
PART 2 | Rescue workers arrived to the scene late - air traffic controllers, preoccupied with handling the crisis, had failed to notify emergency services. The rescue workers were able to free the First Officer but the Captain perished in the blaze. Another ten passengers later died in hospital.
Federal aviation agencies wasted no time investigating the crash. It was discovered the propeller failure was caused by corrosion. They concluded that the crash, and the subsequent loss of lives, could have been avoided had a fatal flaw not been inadvertently covered up.
Season 2 Episode 2 "A Wounded Bird": Shortly after take off on board Flight 529, the engine was torn off from its mountings. The aircraft was flying on one wing! The pilots prepared for a crash landing and miraculously, all 29 passengers and crew survived the crash.

That's an interesting question for me. People ask me that, why do I watch such things when I fly so frequently for my job (field service.) I guess the answer I have is that I like to be informed, I find it compelling, I love the knowledge of what has been improved by the FAA over time so things are better, and it strikes emotions that I'm not super happy to have, yet they make me feel human. Why am I glued the the Gabby Petito case? Same. It makes me sad, but confirms I'm alive. I'm going to guess you make these videos for similar reasons. I do thank you for them though.

Everything! It’s educational. I’m not a pilot, but this is a good out let for aspiring pilots, wing mechanics and aviation engineers.
You can tell the doctor was really affected by that day 😞
Like the guy said before.. I hope the captain's spirit is, I hope he knows what a goodjobhe did... He's the HERO🙏🙏🙏 R.I.P Captain Ed Gannaway🕊🕊🕊
It's hard to imagine what that prop technician is feeling. He did as he was instructed but knows that prop killed many people. I feel for him.
5:40 I feel sorry of the old man. He is re-living the worst memories during the interview, and showing clear symptoms of PTSD

@@ratataran Just because he wasn't on the plane doesn't mean he didn't share a sense of trauma with the passengers. If you saw someone crawling out of a plane wreckage, burning, and their skin was peeling off. You would also feel traumatized. Not to mention, a plane did crash into your house, no?
I have huge respect for pilots they are my rolemodel because the responsibility they have is unbelievable!
I wouldn’t be surprised if all 20 of the survivors still have PTSD and survivor’s guilt.
It sucks that they survived the crash but not the fire. To many people lives where changed that day.

Props to Dr. Bobby Mitchell, he was working hard treating every patient as he could
It must've been traumatic for them watching fellow passengers burning alive.
To know that Ganaway died of smoke inhalation, means he was alive after the crash…
@ 5:42 the older gent, who you know has seen much in his years, that is still unable to tell you or describe what he saw speaks volumes. I wish him peace. 👍🇺🇲
What a tragedy. I commend the pilots on landing the plane and the man who tried his best to get the co-pilot out. Even the flight attendant, who was hurt herself, requested that the doctors attend to others. That is the epitome of a true flight attendant, protecting their passengers. I've read before that one of the reasons that flight attendants sit facing the opposite way, at least at the front of the aircraft, is to increase their chances of survival.
Feel badly for everyone including the pilots.
Correction: I was wrong in the previous video, in fact, not all the survivors had to go through the fire and a few escaped before it even started. The ones that did have to go through the fire, though, what I said still applies - absolutely mind numbing horror. Third degree burns are among the most awful wounds there are; it's very difficult and very painful to recover from them and there is always pain and loss of function afterward.
As a airline pilot myself I can’t even imagine the difficulties of realizing you may never fly again professionally, as well as dealing with the ptsd involved with surviving the crash.
RIP to all, major respect to the crew and all the heroes involved! I was sorry to see it break some of those folks, I think they were heroes.
It's terrible that the controller didn't pass on the message about the crash. Thank God for the resident that called 911 or even more would have died. :-(

the controller's inaction on the alert to emergency crews is moot. The crash site was not known, so what emergency services is he to call out?

@@JPF941 Information on the speed, heading, and rate of descent when radar contact was lost would be enough to provide a basic search grid for search and rescue teams to start on.
Horrible experience for all involved, passengers, flight crew, rescue workers, medical workers, people of Carroliton GA, the technician that worked on the prop, and loved ones of all involved.
It is obvious that the medical staff never really got over that day
ive lived in carroll county for over 15 years and never heard one person talk sbout this happening. its sad that this is how i have to find out about it..
When they said the pilot died I was so sad.
RIP to the passengers and Captain Ed Gannaway who died in their injures 💔 😔 💮🌼 💐 🌼 🌼 🌻 🌸 🌹 💮 🏵.
Great vid, RIP to the fallen victims of Flight 529. I like the Brasilia, nice aircraft design.

A Controller fails to pass on a message that a plane had crashed in some ones back yard? That's mind blowing, who does such a thing? I don't get it.
Very nice Doctor. And all the other people that helped also.

Last words of captain... Amy, I love you
I watch mayday and sad that everyone survived the landing but tragedy after RIP
fantastic episode
I'd say make the execs stand near burning jet fuel; 1 minute for every passenger that died from burns. ...I bet it'd take 10seconds before there was an industry-wide shift to lower combustion fuel.
Heroes these helpers was , I dream of being on a airplane crashing before I fly I think it is going to be the end of me sooner or later on a flight.

Think of the odds any of these people watched a video of a plane crash before dying in one. The odds of you being in a crash are so small as to almost require you to be lucky. You might as well play the powerball.
Thus says it's new but I'm sure I watched this a few weeks ago.

Not possible if the engine is damaged as it can cause fire in the engine.
How much money do you think everyone gets in the settlement?
Make a fuel that burns through something other then oxygen or put more fire extinguishers on planes like under seats or in the over heads? Maybe put a flame proof ramp somewhere on the plane or even make the doors flame proof so they can be used as ramps and on that note try putting some inflatable rafts in the plane!
@noctisumbra2749

Fuel doesn't burn specifically through oxygen, but through any oxidizer. Further most oxidizer with are stronger than oxygen are really nasty.

When the exit was covered with fire those who escaped could help by collecting soil and throw it into the fire ... Little but better than nothing ... Soil can act as powder extinguisher
Military not use military now use jp-8 and there's an f 24 also
Well, this didn’t help my depression
why not have an automatic fire extinguishing system on the plane, or provide fire blankets or clothing that can be worn like a jump suit, they're looking for less flammable fuel but the fact is fire is fire, even when using less flammable fuel the flames will burn people, and the smoke is lethal too. they should look for creative solutions...they can make the plane in compartments so if the plane breaks it will break in specific compartments that will seal up and is fire rated from the out side, and fire extinguishers on the inside to put out any fires inside the compartment itself and an exhaust system to extract any smoke in the compartment, and instead of the people leaving and getting burned, they'll stay in these protected chambers until first responders arrive.... this concept is used in Burj Khalifa in Dubai, if a fire occurs, people aren't expected to walk down over 100 floors of stairs, so there are fire proof chambers every set amount of floors where people will stay in until the fires are put out, I feel there is some serious neglect on the FAA's part when it comes to fire protection in planes.

Problem to overcome is weight and cost. Your example works because it is in a building. Everything you add to a plane adds weight that has to be overcome and planes are enormously expensive to build and operate as it is. Then your potential customers will fly somewhere else to save $1.
Watching the reenactment the Hachette shown had me worried. The standard crash axes have a semicircular blade and a pick opposite on a flat solid steel handle all one piece with a insulating handle over it. The one I found online today is a G D42 Crash Axe On Amazon for $99.99 US and on Granger for 164.95 I have seen older ones going for $750.00. If what was shown was accurate I believe that alone is a FAA Violation.
