    What kind of rescue team "stops overnight" because they "do not expect survivors"?!? That is shocking for any kind of rescue team to even think that. You rush to a scene 100% of the time even if there is only a 0.00000000001% chance for a single survivor.

    Captain Takahama's daughter, who lost her father during this tragedy, was a high-school student at the time of the crash. Despite the horrific outcome, she still decided to become a JAL flight attendant for Japan Airlines. Such love to follow in her dad's footsteps by working the same airline as he served in & heroically tried to save his passengers.

    It is said that many pilots tried to recreate this situation on a flight simulator, but every one of them were unable to carry out the maneuvers the pilots did on the original plane. Both the captains received posthumous awards for their sheer determination and will. May all the 520 innocent souls rest in peace for eternity, and never be forgotten.

    Talk about disgraceful. The JAL crash was due to a botched repair, whereas, in Tenerife, the KLM pilot initiated his takeoff roll without clearance - deliberate action of jumping into the unknown without a safety net - which is basically Russian roulette. Hats off to the copilot for speaking up, if only once, the first time the captain's itchy trigger finger got the better of him, and what a bummer for the Boeing employee who physically installed that single row of rivets on the seam.

  • @zettour.

    @zettour.

    8 күн бұрын

    @@chippyjohn1You mean one faulty repair? Also, Boeing acknowledge their fault in the situation whereas JAL never admitted fault for their subsequent lazy inspection of the repair, resulting in the suicide of two of their staff who took responsibility through their deaths. They also bare ultimate responsibility as the operator of the aircraft and never took responsibility beyond paying approx. 13,000 USD per death. JAL even tried to blame the pilots. Meanwhile, Boeing paid more than JAL and reached an amicable settlement with the families involved. They also supposedly replaced the 747. Boeing wasn't cutting corners; their technicians made a mistake and it was clear in the report. The splice works, if the repair was actually completed correctly. One faulty repair should never down an aircraft with the level of redundancy in the industry, unless your maintenance procedures and inspections aren't thorough. Especially when the faulty repair lasted 7 years, waiting to be inspected. But mistakes like those can happen. The botched rescue? Inexcusable. There is no possible reason for Tokyo MP to wave off American support here. Absolutely no excuse.

    The most fatalities in any aviation accident in history occurred at the Tenerife North-Ciudad de La Laguna Airport (then Los Rodeos Airport) in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, on 27 March 1977, when a KLM Boeing 747-206B and a Pan Am Boeing 747-121 collided on a runway, killing 583 people.

    So the repair was done incorrectly? Ok however was it done cheaply to save costs or done quickly to save time or was it just really an unfortunate mistake? Was there any precedent prior to this flight where the repair was done properly or did the NTSB show the Japanese an illustration of how it “should” be done rather than it “was” done?

    It sure seems that the rear bulkhead should have been replaced rather than repaired. I know only one row of bolts were replace; however, the metal was likely fatigued from being dragged on the ground. Where is the repair work order? Who failed? Did they intentionally cut corners? Who signed off on the repairs?
