Hi folks! I know a lot of my viewers won't be interested in the details of my trailer upgrades, but "A LOT" of you said you were. So for those that are interested...here you go! I made separate videos with the details of the upgrades as to not interfere with your regular Sunday programing. Enjoy! :)

Cat, get a piece of scratch paper and calculate just how much power draw you'll ever imagine using yourself. That should help determine how much Amp Hours you'll need for your battery bank. Try to avoid overkill on the number of batteries you end up getting. If you plan it right, you can design the setup expandable thus saving money, weight and space.

Thank you for these the way you are doing them. Bob Wells just did a comparison of some lithium batteries and it is great to see the quality come up and price come down. That video also had some serious considerations about lithium and freezing temps. You might want to learn this for when you get out in temps near the freezing point. Just a thought. So much to learn, but you can do it. Especially with Dan's help. Most of us do not need to know the details much more than what an installer should be doing correct and one we can trust. You found a gem. And we need to know how to use without damaging the set up and what the limits are. Even as you spend a lot and expand to the most your trailer can hold it will never be unlimited like a home. solar still requires trade offs and monitoring. You might get AC but it will drain the batteries fast and cause more charging cycles to wear out your batteries. Nice to have when it is life or death but go easy on it daily. Realistic expectations are what matters really.

@@markpashia7067 The only time cold Temps are an issue with lithium batteries, is if you are in Temps below 10F. The battery will discharge down to 0F, and charge down to an internal battery temp of 32F. I have my batteries in an outside compartment and have been down to 8 degrees and the internal battery temp is still above 32 degrees. Plus the battery will stop the charging if it ever did get to 33 degrees. Cat will most likely never be in an are that cold to be an issue.

The video reaffirmed what I had already learned from numerous how to videos, but Dan was so much more in depth as to why everything was working the proper way. After watching his installation, I completed my own conversion and everything works properly. And yes, it is a tight space to work in. Just need to find out what he did to put the microwave on the loop. Thank you Dave D

Many of the new LiFePO4 batteries now have Bluetooth added to the battery management system (BMS). This allows monitoring the status of the battery, individual cells and battery temperature. A well designed LiFePO4 battery will have low temp cutoff to protect the battery when charging. Some manufacturers add heating elements to protect the batteries. You know the temperature extremes you experience so choose your batteries accordingly. Great installation Dan!

Dan is proving the value of knowledge. By sharing it. Cat, as Dan says, you really want to go lithium ASAP. But, those batteries need to be very well-protected. Let's just say that lithium and water don't play well together! As for how much power you need, remember the "power" law: P (Watts) = I (Current(Amps)) X Voltage. As an example of the wiring "accessories" need, my 100 watt ham radio shortwave transceiver pulls 20A on transmit. So, I have the wiring (2 conductor #14) for that professionally installed from engine compartment into the luggage area of my car. (Radio is remotely controlled.) Also, watch the grounding! Grounding is super critical. In my case, I have to have additional grounding to prevent "RF feedback" when I'm on-air. Watch how Dan seals everything ujp. And, be ready to maintain those seals as they can deteroriate. This was a great inforfmative video!

@@johnpinckney4979 Yes LFP and LiFePO4 are the same thing, and what the solar/RV industries usually mean when they say "lithium battery". The lithium batteries in EVs are different but much of that industry is transitioning to LFP too, as it's safe, cheap, and doesn't contain cobalt or nickel. The drawbacks are that LFP is heavier and bulkier than those chemistries that catch on fire, and LFP can't be charged below freezing so such use requires self-warming batteries, which uses a bit of their capacity. Cat would want to move her batteries indoors if she uses LFP.

The hardware store really came through for you, so did Dan. There’s really some good people left in the world. You’re so sweet, everyone would fall in line to help. I’m taking a vintage class restoration class from Mobiltec (Larry) and he shared one of your videos with us since you were such a dear soul, take care.
