INVENTABLES X-CARVE - Home Made RC upgrades coming!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This video will explain what I have been up to in the past couple of weeks.
Have a look at the Inventables website and online shop: www.inventables.com/
Check out Easel in the following link: www.inventables.com/technolog...
The online SVG file converter I have used: image.online-convert.com/conve...
The willingness to learn new skills can be triggered in many ways. I never thought it would occur by getting my hands on a machine that I never had a real interest in, but it did. After getting contacted by Inventables with the question if I wanted to check out their latest 3D CNC router, I initially had my doubts. All of them vanished as soon as I started to assemble the machine.
I'm not easily impressed, but the X-Carve has me amazed in more ways than one. Not only was the assembly easy and very straight forward, also getting the hang of Easel, Inventables' free online 3D software, was way less intimidating than I had anticipated beforehand.
So what does this mean for my channel? Me using the X-Carve means that every single project that I will use the machine for will be something you can replicate at home. Delrin, Carbon, aluminium, they are all materials that come into play when building an RC car. They are all materials that can be machined by the X-Carve. Each drawing I make for any of my future projects will be available through Easel, for you to use on your own build. Saves you a lot of work, and will hopefully inspire you to also start creating and launching your own custom RC parts online.
Inventables is an impressive company. They managed to create an understandable product, and smoothe out the threshold I always felt when it comes to trying my hand at machines such as this one.

Shayen Momot I'm really not easily blown away, but man is this thing cool. Just the level of taking out redundant parts and making the rest look absolutely stunning is an impressive feature in itself. With performance to match, I count myself a very fortunate hobbyist.

Very interesting. Being a guy who has been working on CNC machines for the last 20yrs. I wondered when something like this would pop up in the hobby. Naturally there are lots of questions. What size tools can be used? How rigid is this machine under load? What type of materials can be machined on it. Wood plaques are cool but how about aluminum or brass? How about RPM control. Spindle speeds? Thanks for taking this on. I really look forward to seeing how you feel about some of these questions I've brought up. I can tell you will be honest with us. Sometimes I find manufacturers can be a little hopeful when speaking specs on their products. Obviously you have caught my attention. Thanks

RcNickster Hi there! Tool size used is 1/8th of an inch in shaft size or 3.175mm. The machine is extremely sturdy under load, also the V-grooved guide wheels (delrin) can be adjusted afterwards to fine tune the way they roll. This is done by twisting an off center nut in the bottom of the carriages. I have machined some carbon under high stress when puncturing the material, and did so in the center of the waste board, no noticable abnormalities in anything I have machned up to this point. I think the machine has ran approximately 25 hours and all is still as it should be. Materials that can be machined also include soft metals such as aluminium and brass, copper and carbon and delrin will be my key materials for RC applications. There is a feature to run a separate RPM control on the spindle, but I have not seen any use for it in the way I use the machine. Inventables also offers a DeWalt router mount, which would perhaps open it up to some of the features you are looking for. I hope this is of help! :)

Not sure how this beats having a 3D printer. This machine is at most 2.5D as it at best can carve "pyramids". I believe the manufacture had a great marketing idea giving away many of these to creative people with lots of online followers thereby saving on advertising cost - I am sure you not the only one who got one for "free". The machine is great, however not sure who in the RC hobby world will go out and buy one to copy anything anybody else has created.

ElCaPiTaNelalelu Good point! Ich bin ganz Ihrer Meining. Dies ist jedoch nicht die erste portalfrease auf dem markt - I benutze so eine machine schon seit jahren und es gib weitaus bessere loesungen fuer den modernen modellbau. Obviously this machine can 3D print (with the right tools attached) but it is not marketed as such and I am sure HemiStorm will do great figuring out how to solve his projects - But he has now become marketing agent for Inflatables (just like many others out there).

I'm just getting the hang of this machine. You may be an experienced CNC user, I'm not. If there was anything negative about the experience I had so far, you would have heard it as I don't tend to sugarcoat things. Of course Inventables has made a clever move by sending machines to those with an audience, but there is also a risk in doing so. I could have for example not liked it. Or not gotten the hang of it. I have though. I learned new things. Added a new tool so I can further improve my content. Nothing but awesome in my book. As for the machine "just being able to machine pyramids", that's nonsense. Limited use in RC? Not at all. You will see in months to come.

One more thing, Lotar: I will never be anyone's poster boy. But, if I like something and think a genuine contribution can be made to a hobby that I love, I will absolutely promote it. Just like the RC cars that I like, Castle products, the things that I have good experiences with. No need to disrespect a company who tries to make a change, and gets the word out in a different way than you perhaps prefer.
