Introverts, Extroverts, and Ambiverts? | Eamon Ryan | TEDxBrentwoodCollegeSchool

At the 7th Annual TEDxBrentwoodCollegeSchool, Eamon tackled the nuances of his own personality and shared insights to help us all navigate the nuances of ours. Shy, loud, or somewhere in between? Don't worry. We've all placed somewhere along that spectrum. The topic of human personality has always been a complex and ever-changing thing. From the Vikings, to the Romans, humans have always been a big mess of emotions, conflicts, and ideas. However, through the years of varied experiences, we believe that we have finally accurately narrowed down humans to three main personality types. So, it's up to you. Are you an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert? If you don't know, it's time to find out. Eamon is an award winning filmmaker, competitive debater, and an overall big nerd. Growing up on small Vancouver Island, BC, Eamon spent most of his youth messing with computers, arguing with his parents, and making KZread videos with his friends. Today, Eamon is in his 2nd-to-last year of highschool, and he isn't wasting time. With strong aspirations for the future, Eamon devotes most of his time to strengthening his academics and extracurriculars in hopes to go to a prestigious university. While he has not narrowed down his career choices for the future, he plans to pursue somewhere in the field of STEM, most likely in Computer Science. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

@@DiamanteDea this does seem like a rather textbook understanding of introverts/introversion. I think it really is about what social - or, non-social - settings give us life versus those that cause the most unease or drain us.

I’m an introvert and one way that a friend described me was being like a rubber ball - I need someone to bounce off, someone to give me some momentum. I can’t trigger conversations easily, but if someone else gives me the energy I can do it - but it’s bloomin exhausting. Extroverts however are like a bat or a racket - they can swing on their own and can give momentum to other too

Introversion has NOTHING to do with being shy or reclusive or understanding social cues. In fact, introverts excel at understanding social cues.

I was extrovert until I met toxic people. I found most people of my surroundings as somewhat toxic. I want to stay away from them so I have been known as an introvert for the last 3 years. But I talk to people whom I am comfortable with. I am still confused whether I am an introvert or extrovert.

Same…like you read my diary. I was an extrovert until I was 35… I’m 47 and have had a lot of toxic people in my life. I was the life of the party. Now I hardly leave my house unless I have to!

I don't think this guy actually knows what he is talking about. It is a good effort for his age, though it veers heavily into social psychology. I am interested in the topic and desire continued depth for such topics of personality and will keep looking :) Seek Soulfilled Story of Diversity: (Rather than arguments) This is a good map of data, tho... Prefer: "Emotional Soup....." Appreciative. -Ambpea

Extroversion and introvertion is about how a person recharge social battery or energy. He fails to emphasize that and just give over simplification about what cognitive function is specific for the two. Not good content tedtalks
