I am a socially awkward extrovert and my wife is an outgoing introvert. At home, we have conversations just like the one in the video, but if you see us out in public, you would assume we were each the opposite role. In public, she's chatting with folks and inviting them to the table to planning trips to the gym and I sit and listen quietly. Then in the car ride home, I'm talking about what a great time we had and all the news we heard and how I'm looking forward to the next outing; and she's So. Tired. Of. People.

That adds more descriptors to my experience. I'm socially awkward and an introvert but can be outgoing and extroverted sometimes when needed. I'll fight tooth and nail not to have to talk to people but once I do, in a social setting that's safe and fun, it can be nice. It can be hard to be a socially awkward anything though. The saying and doing the wrong thing can seem endless or at least always a looming possibility. 🤔

I get that. People always think I am an extrovert because I can be very conversational but it really exhausts me and I need to have alone time to recover. If I don't get it I will become a very unpleasant person to be around.

Finally, this describes me! My husband is an outgoing extrovert and I am a shy, socially awkward extrovert. We will go out and he is the one talking and then wants to leave. I don’t say much but am in Heaven and don’t want to leave. He always thinks I’m an introvert with him despite me going stir crazy and wanting to get out and go do things with people. My youngest is also an extrovert but less socially awkward. People always think I’m introverted but I get my energy from being around people.

@@paddlingpuppies excellent point. I forgot about that - it's not alcohol, it's dogs that are the universal social lubricant! 😂. I had a friend who I'd go on walks with walking their dog and everyone with a dog or who likes dogs stopped and talked. And dog parks are super social. 😂
I'm an introvert in an entire family, included extended family, of extraverts. Christmas is a nightmare for me sometimes because the exact same group of people want to meet at every house every day for weeks, and I'm always like "yeah, but we just met yesterday." Now I say, "OK, if you're having 10 parties, I will attend 3". They think I'm weird, and even though I love them, I really only want to go to 1 party. After one party with EVERYONE I'm so exhausted I can barely move, and after 3 I need a week in my room alone just to recover. I've always been told I'm weird, lol, and just accepted that I'm weird. It's nice to know I'm not alone (even though i really love being alone, lol).

I am an extrovert and what Penn said about where you get your energy is 100% on point. It's weird and I don't know why it works, but anytime I am around other people my energy level goes way up and my endorphins start flowing. When I'm by myself, I actually suffer a lot more depression and anxiety and my energy level just bottoms out. Even talking to someone on the phone helps my mindset and energy level. I'm an extrovert and my daughter is an ambivert, and a teenager, so being a single mom sometimes sucks, lol. Penn, I'll talk to you anytime, and I'm a good listener, so I'll let you ramble as long as you want, lol. Love both you and Kim and the laughs you've given me for the last 9+ years!

As an introvert, who dated an introvert, After growing up in a family of talkers, the first afternoon I spent with my boyfriends family, in 1990, where they all sat in the living room, reading quietly, went from completely weird to completely refreshing. 10 years later, as a young couple, we had to schedule walks outside where we would talk things over, otherwise, we might not know what the other one had scheduled for the week. We still scheduled time to sit down and talk so that it actually happens, and I find myself pushing my introverted daughter to also talk. Luckily, my extroverted son is not weirded out by this, he will just talk to himself, and not be bothered that no one is responding.
Two introverts here - and together we have become even MORE introverted over the years, I feel. LOL. I always get forced to do the phone calling things (ugh), but he has to talk to any actual people that show up.

I also never Facetime people for the same reason, I'd say that's even worse than traditional phone calling as you'd have to sit digitally face to face with a stranger *shudder*

Also selfish. Be who you are but find balance in both.

This is my boyfriend and I, but reversed. I’m the extroverted one and he’s the introverted one. It took us a while to feel comfortable saying what we wanted and needed in our relationship because we’re so different. Thankfully 😅 we’ve gotten so much better at it :)
It’s so refreshing that these days we’re encouraged to be ourselves. My generation not so much, very judging and labelling. So much freedom in being able to acknowledge who you are and what you’re comfortable with. Great insight and comedic creativity as usual 😊
I’m an introvert married to an introvert. It’s mostly bliss but sometimes it would be nice to have one of us connect with people and balance that out.
I'm an extrovert married to an introvert, but we work great. I was raised my one of each. When we got married at age 35, we were very intentional about setting expectations. He is very good at kicking me out of the house when he sees that I need society and I know when to let him sit alone in his office to recharge. Communication is key and also each bending a little. For insurance, I have a weekly group of friends here on Saturday mornings, but I try to give him at least 2 evenings a week of solitude to even it out.
That sounds like my two daughters! They love each other and really enjoy each other's company, but my younger will tell you her personality is that of a cat/dragon. LOL She'd rather stay home and read or watch something most of the time, but older sister wants her to experience stuff. ❤️

You two are adorable and truly add laughter & thoughtful insight to my life. Keep up the great work & Thank you both! Much ❤️
You are such deep thinkers about human nature! Fascinating, right? Hubby and I are both introverts but I was always a very extroverted introvert. Over time, he has become more social, at my urging, and after some therapy for social anxiety, and I have become less social because I “retired” from being the one who always had to carry the conversation and smile, as well as initiate every plan we made. Kids are grown, school days are over, and we find ourselves switching roles now. I am now more like Kim, hubby is becoming a lower level version of Penn. I think that you are both adorable and perfect just the way you are, perfect compliments in marriage. The Beatles had it right, All You Need is Love. 🥰

Yes. I’m an introvert married to an extrovert. And you are right without him I would rarely leave the house! Great video.
Both my girlfriend and I are introverts. We can spend hours in the same room reading or watching videos and not talking and it's fine. Neither one of us likes crowds or noisy places. (We both hate the bar scene.) We like to stay in. And if we do want to go to a movie we wait until almost the end of its run and go in the afternoon when hardly anyone is in the theater!
I think it is better that way. As the introvert if you just go along for the ride you can have fun and it pushes you to have fun. But you don't have any of the stress or worry about planning anything, because your extrovert spouse has already come up with who you are seeing, what you are doing, and when. You just have to arrive and have fun. Then afterwards you can be home and recharge.
😂😂😂 I laughed throughout the entire video! This sounds so much like my husband & I, just about every weekend.
I'm an introvert married to an introvert. And somehow the two of us managed to spawn a blatant extrovert of a child. He's only in kindergarten right now, but OMG. I'm looking forward to when he's old enough to say "I'm going out to play with my friends, be back at dinner!" and I will be able to just collapse and enjoy my quiet house. 😂
I laughed through the comic part, but the outro moved me. Been laughing and sharing for years, but now I can think of you as real people. I am often surprised that introverts can be charming public figures (David Byrne, Kim...). "Where you get your energy..." I need plenty of alone time and get more than enough of it. After working out of my home for over 19 years, my son said "Dad, you're like Crocodile Dundee when he gets to New York City." Years ago I denied I was that bad, but now it's pretty accurate.
