A SWOT Analysis is a tool used to complete an objective analysis of a company. In addition to taking an internal look at the company (strengths and weaknesses), companies also need to scan the external environment to identify both opportunities and threats. In this week's video, we revisit the SWOT Analysis.

    what is the difference between SWOT and PESTLE? can they be used together, if yes, how?

  • @Alanisbusinessacademy

    @Alanisbusinessacademy

    9 жыл бұрын

    Vlad Nanu They're somewhat different but often done simultaneously. A PESTLE analysis is really an analysis of the organization's external environment (i.e. political, economic, etc). When conducting that analysis we often use the SWOT framework to fully evaluate each environment. Hope that makes sense. Great question by the way.

    Very clear and in such a concise time - bravo I have a question though - As a student I have a SWOT analyses to conduct based on an extact of Armani's group diversification and its opening of a hotel in Dubai (already done) I still find it not that easy to conduct the swot - Is it necessary to make researches or should it be conducted only with the information provided by the article - hope my question is clear enough - thanks for your answer

  • @Alanisbusinessacademy

    @Alanisbusinessacademy

    This is a good question. Truthfully the strength of your analysis is dependent upon the strength of the information that you base it upon. So the more information that you can get the better the end result will be. The problem with basing your information on one article is you rely solely on the opinion of one person, which may affect the level of analysis that you incorporate. Sometimes bias can be present as well, and that can diminish the credibility of your claims. With that said, if you can't find additional information conduct the analysis on what you have. Hope this helps.

    Hi, is it true that SWOT analysis is more usfull in the operational planning more than in the strategic planning?

  • @Alanisbusinessacademy

    @Alanisbusinessacademy

    I believe it's more useful for strategy planning, which of course affects operational planning. It's the job of executives to identify those trends and impact planning on an operational level.

    amazon although has cost advantages the organisation has never make substantial profits in fact in a financial loss situation despite its cost advantage. I am the disadvantages of online is despatching of goods globally is the costs involved in despatching and time consuming compared to brick and mortar shop. I worked in university bookshop chain and we may have 6 operators working the tills but we can turnover alot more money in a short time then despatching books online which is very labour intensive and the use of packing materials instead of a bag for the customer. Also, customer come to shop and tend to buy more goods on display then online shop

    Susan Ngan That's true that Amazon hasn't been profitable in some quarters, however comparing Amazon to a brick and mortar isn't an accurate comparison. The reason is that a traditional brick and mortar retailer simply offers physical goods. Amazon has a larger number of business models, including hardware which has high sunk costs and media which requires expensive licensing deals. So I wouldn't say it's a fair comparison.

    +Alanis Business Academy Having read a book about Amazon - "the everything store" by Brad Stone recently, I would add that Amazon has also not made profits because the CEO takes a long run view and is more concerned with rapid growth to achieve market domination than profit. Also a restless diversification into more and more new markets through acquisition - not all of these acquisitions have worked out.
