Tom's Channel!
/ @tomstantonengineering
I've been following Tom's channel for a while and he makes really awesome machines. I became a patron and when I saw him trying RC paramotoring reached out to him to ask if he wanted to try fullsize and he said yes!
Many months later our calendars finally coincided and we managed to make it happen! It was a blast, Tom is a really nice guy and exactly the same person on and off camera which is awesome.
He is by far the fastest person I've seen go from never having touched a paragliding wing to being able to groundhandle reasonably in forward and reverse configuration.

    So Tom when you getting into paramotoring? If you get a chance take a look at a couple of my earlier videos where I learnt to ground handle on my own. All the way to my first flight.

    Question...I purchased a SEED about 3 month ago just before A shoulder surgery ..It's still in the box New I also sold my main wing Ozone Spyder so I'll be getting a new one very shortly I've heard quite a bit of apposing opinions about a small kiting wing ( Speed wings ) being a good tool to learn kitting and to keep proficient V's you should only use your wing because a Small wing really doesn't help to teach you to handle your regular wing ..Whats your thoughts ? would be interesting to get your rookie to be good on the seed then give him a regular wing and see how he does on his first time

    @@AndreBandarra1 Yes I'm busted did not watch the entire Video watched 9:00 min But i promise i watch the Entire video after you called me out LOL..You talked me into keeping my SEED and ground handling. I just thought sell it and get your new real wing and use it to ground handle So How many other pilots out there have 50 or more hours flying and know deep down they suck at ground handling ?

  • @AndreBandarra1

    @AndreBandarra1

    5 жыл бұрын

    On your original question Eloy about are small gh wings worth it or not, it really depends. If you do 10 hours of groundhandling a month and you fly more than what you groundhandle then sure you're best off using your normal wing. But if like me you groundhandle a lot and want to get good at it you're better off with a small wing and a normal wing because you can groundhandle a small wing in a lot more weather conditions and it's also much faster than your full size wing. So you develop much quicker reactions and when you go to your normal wing it's much easier than your groundhandling wing. But in short, yes groundhandling wings are only worth it if you do it enough.

    André, at the beginning it look like you didnt tell him to put the wing and himself centered with the wind. If the pilot is in good position when he pull slightly on the A lines, the leadiing edge should build an horizontal wall. If its not horizontal the pilot should move. That way the wing will come straight up, its easier. And why didnt you teach him forward launch first, he seemed to have trouble with reversing the brake input at first. Was it wind?

    Ground handling by yourself is kind of ok, because you need to find the right place and right wind to do it. But you will learn much faster and better with instruction. You need to get lesson for flying, its too dangerous to learn by yourself. flying is a lot of brain workload at first, so you will be happy that the instructor will be guiding you to the landing field, and take a part of the brain workload. Do you even now if the wing you bought is suited to you? Right size and beginner class? If its a money issue, remember getting lessons is cheaper than a broken leg.

    Hey, I wanted to ask a rocket question but can't figure out how to dm through KZread. So, the short question is: Why don't rockets launch and land in tubes? Wouldn't it save gigantic amounts of fuel? And, with a tapered opening, and the bottom closed, the loadings should be foolproof. Your thoughts? Maybe an experiment?

  • @theq5762
    @theq57625 жыл бұрын

    Cool video! Why did you make him start out on a small wing though? I thought the requires quicker reaction time and isn't so good for a beginner? Tom, you better start paragliding now :) Keep it up, both of you!!

  • @AndreBandarra1

    @AndreBandarra1

    5 жыл бұрын

    Good question! I think it's important to not be afraid of the wing and I also didn't know how physically fit Tom was, so a small wing helps with both of those things. Also because it requires faster reactions if someone can handle a small wing usually they will do better on a big wing. Lastly as a practical thing, the Seed is a groundhandling wing (not meant to be flown) and the big Ion is a full-size certified wing, so both him and me would be less concerned about making mistakes and damaging the wing on the little one than the big one, and being allowed to play and being carefree and not worried about the wing I think is really key to becoming good at it. I'm not saying it's the right way to do it, but to me it makes sense :)

  • @AndreBandarra1

    No, I would say the opposite, on a small wind everything is faster and mistakes get out of hand quicker. It’s easier to go from a small wing to a bigger one than the other way around

    @@AndreBandarra1 If you reread my post you may note that I referred to minimised in terms of being dragged..
