Introduction to Mining Lasers
Ойындар
In this video I take a look at using the Venture as your primary mining platform as a new player, or as a miner who wants the benefit of mobility in an inexpensive ship. Whether you are a new player or just getting into mining, or someone who wants to better understand mining, I hope you'll learn something from this video.
Correction for timestamp 30:00 - I erroneously refer to the Deep Core Mining Laser II as a 'scripted' module - it's actually a module which requires ammunition/charges in the form of mining laser crystals. There's not really a good stand-in word for this except possibly to say, "loaded" or "charged" module, both of which sounded awkward in my mind as I was speaking, though they are definitely more accurate.

Excellent video. But PSA to all those watching now, there have been changes to the mining system. Crystals I believe are different now, and there is a mechanic where there is now a kind of waste called "residue" where you don't get some ore, the percentage of this waste can be altered. Or something like that

Your partially correct but the way the residue works is that u will always mine the amount it says your laser gives u and the residue % chans is a chans that the same amount u just mined is getting destroyed from the amount left in the rock u mined it from. So if u mined 1000 units and the residue % chans also triggered u would get 1000 units and another 1000 units would simply be destroyed from whats left in the rock. So if a fleet were to mine out a full belt, each time a residue % triggered the total amount u would end up with at the end would be lower then if u hade used a laser with 0% residue chans.
New players bear in mind some of the stuff he was talking about towards the end like the modulated deep core miner II's WILL need a premium account to be able to use as well as the tech II variants of the venture
Thank you for the helpful comparrisons, you didn't just clear up mining laser progression, but tech1-tech2 general progression as well.
Fantastic in depth explanation. I learned so much in this 40 mins. Thank you for sharing!
It’s actually 10 missions for the starter career agents ( except exploration which is 5) However these can be completed 3 times per race (3 different locations there is a page on Eve university wiki) so can be done a total of 12 times Great video thanks for the information
This was insanely informative. Thanks so much for making this video!
wow! deep dive into mining lasers and statistics. But learning how to fit the ship is great. Thank you JD.

Glad it was helpful!
Very clear, but I think the crystals have changed might need an update, but loved the video very useful.

Thanks for saying so. :)
I got a couple of scoped mining lasers from the Career Agent quests, killing pirates. I think for the sake of completeness, you'd need to calculate payoff of the higher end mining lasers. That is, how much ore do you need to mine to pay for each laser. Keeping in mind you could get ganked and lose them.
Thx very well explained I’m subscribed love your work.
This was great. I learned something new. Can you do one on industrial ship and escaping gate camps with the new warp core stabilizer change? Are they worth using any more?

I appreciate it
Just a suggestion... If you are going to point at stuff with the mouse cursor, then use a large white arrow, so it can be see what you are pointing at( I tell you this from 40 years in IT) too many trainers use small cute cursors that no one can see.... :)
It’s pointless mining anymore.

I don't agree, when moon mining is a thing and ore prices are still high
