Introduction To Electrical Exam

Are you serious about being an electrician?
EDIT: Don't buy a code book with spirals, the testing company in Texas does not allow you to take your exam with spiral books.

I'm not sure how it is in your guys state. But in CT it is open book test and you can write notes and highlight in your book. It really helped me. Also if you have any type of learning disability even something like ADD or ADHD you can get extra time on your test. Check with the testing/licensing company in your area.

If my exam is in 6-8 months, would it be best to just wait on studying it until the 2017 code book comes out?

Just ordered a code book. I'm in Mississippi. I'm trying to figure out the best study methods for preparation. I have been doing residential electrical work for 5 years now, but I'm still not well versed in electrical language or the mathematics behind it. any advice would be great! Thanks!

I'm thinking about becoming an electrician and joining the union here in Phoenix but I was wondering if I should go straight to the union or go to school for it first. Any advice?

Just to give you my impressions. I applied for the local IEC apprenticeship program, but they neglect to give you all the needed info on their website. I got my High School transcripts (sealed; for your algebra class grades), my GED (proof of secondary school education), and went to the storefront where they accepted these and filled out an application. But, I received an email two weeks later saying that I also needed to included three business reference letters (on company letterhead) attesting to my work ethic. This was the big problem with signing up for an apprenticeship. Look, if you are accepted into an apprenticeship, you have to quit any jobs you work at now and work wherever they send you. But, there is no guarantee you'll get in. They wanted me to ask my current companies for character references, which would me telling them, I wish to quit and get a better job. They would surely can me, since AZ is a "right to work" state, and would likely refuse to give me a character reference. They act like companies are noble and care about our futures. No, they just want your work. The moment they sense disloyalty, your ass is unemployed. F**k IEC. I start at Pima Community College down here in four weeks to get my associates in Electrical Utilities Tech training. At least I can do this while remaining employed.
