What is the difference between social research and educational research?

Hi Evan, thank for this really helpful video! I'm a graduate student taking an introductory course on evaluation and research in education. I was wondering if you could help me understand the differences between the two. I understand that there is a good deal of overlap between research and evaluation, but I was wondering how you personally view them in relation to one another. Do you think there are major differences in how each should be viewed or carried out?

Sure thing, Corey. I see research as an active inquiry of any kind whereas evaluation is the review of something's effectiveness or not for instance. Research involves both data collection and analysis whereas evaluation is technically just the analysis. Though some will surely disagree.

@@EvanOrtlieb1 Thanks for such a prompt response! Your explanation was really similar to how I understood the differences between the two. However, from what I have gathered from our course readings, there seems to be a lot of overlap between the two while there also seems to be a lack of universal consensus between academics on what they are by definition which led to my confusion. Anyway, thanks again. I really appreciate the help!
