    Thank you thank you!! I’ve bought a E collar for my European Great Dane. Unneutered and Great on leash but lately he sees another dog and wants to bark and interact.. great with strangers and kids. But I don’t want to avoid walking him because of other dogs on walk. The E collar comes with instructions about the functions, but doesn’t explain anything of how to apply it to the dog. Thank you for explaining it because it’s very intimidating. And I want to get it right. I watched your video maybe 2-3 times just to make embed it in my brain.

    so what do you do if your dog won't listen to you if there is let's say a dog on the other side of the fence that they are interested in? Only because of your statement of "this is not for if your dog is disobedient." this is my fault for not training more with distractions though.

    Madeline Brownlee I don't think this breed wags or puts their tail up much for this kind of stuff. Also maybe she is getting a bit tired. Tom did say she's young, sensitive, needs short sessions. and it's hot out. I live in KC. it's 10 am right now 83 degrees outside and climbing, feels like 87 with heat index.😎

    This dog is actually just in a calm state of mind. You are just probably used to seeing dogs that are very overstimulated. Mastiffs aren’t normally as hyper willing to please as some other working dogs you normally see doing this type of stuff.

    I bought a e collar called the boss. There’s a difference between the cheapie $35 ones I’ve paid about 250 for the boss. The dog trainers use the best one that comes with all the bells and whistles. Even if my dog is far distance, I can turn on the light on the collar to know and locate where he’s at. And it comes with different functions.

    I understand the importance of obedience. Do the dogs ever get to frolic, sniff and just have fun? This is not sarcasm but a legitimate question.

  • @gimenezayelen87

    Vincenzo Lee I believe so the way he teaches it the word "break" allows the dog to essentially do whatever they want within reason. But with dogs that have behavior and other issues doing everything more permission based makes it so when they do eventually get to frolic and be social its safer for the dog and easier for the owner to handle the situation. Or at least that's what I've gathered from watching his videos and training my dog.

    Yep! It’s all about balance. You’re asking the dog for obedience in certain situations, but like Tom saying “break” you have to let your dog go sniff and be a dog. Walks are for my dogs benefit and mental stimulation, not my own. Through training she gets more freedom and it’s been awesome

    John C. Yes I had to special order them. The long ones that came with my e-collar unfortunately didn’t work either. @@tomdavisofficial I didn't finish it. So what's the point of using an e collar if the dog listens to commands already? My husky listens to commands most of the time but definitely has a mind of her own and sometimes doesn't listen, so I think using the E collar will help, along with some treat rewards.

    @@lmpike11 yeah definitely. I'm just confused on the point of using an e collar if the dog already listens to commands. All I remember him saying is "I'm trying to get the dog to associate the command with the stimulation and that it's coming from me"...... Ok, why? What's the point? What are we achieving? Just so the dog associates the stimulus with the voice command? That's it?! I always assumed E collars were to train the dog on commands.... But of the dog already knows commands and is a really relaxed dog like the one in the video... I just don't get it.

  • @lmpike11

    @lmpike11

    From City To Wild Think of the stimulation as a tap on the shoulder or a small pop of the leash. When you’re training your dog on a leash you can use the leash to guide him in position or remind them that you can enforce the command you’ve asked. The E collar is like using a leash but remotely. It’s a way to remind the dog that you can still enforce what you have asked. It’s very important to teach your dog how to escape the pressure whether it be leash pressure or e-collar pressure. if you don’t associate the ecollar stim with a command then they may associate it with something entirely different, which is poor communication and leads to nervous dogs that have no idea why they are being stimulated/made to feel an unpleasant sensation.

BAT (Behavior Adjustment Training) is one method what I do . Be patient ,calm and do it with all your love . Would you ever put a e collar on a child? I do correct a dog but not with a e collar. I don't will say he is a bad trainer I know him not really. But with e collar I have a different opinion. I hope I could help you to think about it. That's would be the beginning.

    Conny Becker unfortunately that explanation doesn’t shed any light for me... patience runs out, calmness assumes there is no gut reaction to the dog’s rehearsed behaviours- which often times there is. Of course you wouldn’t use an ecollar on a child, ideally you are able to communicate in the same language which isn’t a luxury we have with our dogs. What do you use to correct? And I’m not advocating for correcting a dog while you are upset either, that is the first thing I fixed in my relationship with my dog.

    Yeah sure, positive reinforcement training only gets you so far. You should really look up a trainer called Larry Krohn, he explains why the e collar is the best tool and responds back to people who hate on it. Don’t be so naive, I tried positive reinforcement with my husky for YEARS, to no avail due to him wanting to do what he wants, 3 days into e collar training and he’s a happier dog than ever going on walks off leash, you know why? Because the e collar helps me give him that freedom. Freedom for him to wander, yet a reminder that “come” means come. Let’s see you recall a dog >100 yards away with positive reinforcement like Larry does. I’ll wait.
