Introducing the 10 Million Names Project
Presented by Dr. Kendra Taira Field, Lindsay Fulton, and Kerri Greenidge
Moderated by Ryan J. Woods
Live broadcast: August 24, 2023
There are at least 44 million descendants of enslaved individuals alive today, but slavery separated families, erased names, and obscured facts. The 10 Million Names Project, recently launched by American Ancestors and its partners, aims to connect the family stories of these descendants to the 10 million men, women, and children of African descent who were enslaved in the U.S. prior to emancipation and to restore their names to history. Join Chief Historian Dr. Kendra Field and Vice President of Research and Library Services Lindsay Fulton as they share the scope of this project, the objectives, and our methodology.

Merci beaucoup pour l'histoire de TEN Million Names Project❤❤❤❤😊❤❤❤❤❤❤😊❤❤❤❤😊❤❤❤❤ Millions of blessings, Esther St Juste
Jump to 10:00 for the actual Project presentation (it's a very long intro). The Project presentation is very clear and runs under 32 minutes, followed by some Q & A. Great job.

OMG thank you! I was just about to click out of this!
Excellent! Worth listening to and learning.
Enjoyed. Looking forward to using this tool. DUCHESS ❤
This was an amazing presentation! I’m interested in following the progress of the oral history portion of the 10 Million Names project in particular. I’d also like to ask if there is some type of community outreach as far as collecting information from families of formerly enslaved Black Americans? This is wonderful work!
Sorry I don’t have time to listen to the whole video can someone tell me how to access the enslaved persons recordings? Much appreciated ❤
Is there a way I can be a volunteer to help with this?

I would love to reach out to you to try & locate family members on my father's side as well as on my mother. Her mother was born in 1902. She lost track of family from slavery! My father met his great grandmother! She was born a slave! She was a product of aan from England and a slave!

What more about slavery? Comon now.
They are not African Americans but they are Hebrews Israel .
They’re not African descendants, they Natives to the land and black Europeans with their own ancestors names. If the English do called whites gave them surnames because they were African slaves then why the English didn’t gave Africans English names when they colonised Africa in 1884? No Africans were brought to America, you bring 12 million People into a region yet can’t find one thread of the language any of the spoke! No primary sources speak of an African language or any African being brought into America. West African has 680 different African languages yet not one can be found or survived from so called 12 million Africans ?
