The horrible person who raped my great great great grandmother was a christian bishop who was the President of what is now Emory University. George Foster Pierce. I never understood why all of the oldest boys carried this horrible mans name. That ended with my dad because he never had boys.

I wish they stopped saying they "helped" build this country. They were forced and brutalized to build it. They had no choice.

I think the reason they said that was because they acknowledge that one single race of people is not solely responsible for building this country. Plus, builders and architects are different things.

We didn’t help, the economic wealth from the enslaved built this country in addition to the actual physical labor of the enslaved!!!

When you think about built you are referring to the actual labor. I and others are referring to the wealth accrued that enabled the building of the American economy that catapulted it to a world power !!!

"It's about our history" These people are "our forefathers". Well said. How can we hope to understand the full picture eventually if we a missing all these pieces wither due to ignorance over time or nefarious intent in covering up histories. All history is important history.

I could feel several schools from all the books, biographies, and documentaries my Parents and Grandparents gave me. Make up all the Laws you want DeSantis and his cult followers. Our DNA alone tells our story. They'll never erase our History. Never.

Death to disinformation. Ignorant fools devoid of common sense believe that African Americans were already here pre~slavery. It is a horrible shame to all the black African ancestors who died and toiled and hoped for the future. I wish I could burn people who spread these lies at the stake. Dark skinned Native Americans are not the same as black people and do not share the same ancestors. Native Americans who mixed with African Americans came about during and after slavery brought the Africans here.

One of the reasons that Black folks are entitled to reparations is because of those blocks in researching our ancestors. The U.S. Government should pay for all (at least those who want it) to have their DNA tested... Genealogy classes and lessons should be taught in every community and every school. DNA will be the key to discovering more of our ancestors!!

DNA and the genealogical paper trail are two different things. I know there's the African Ancestry DNA test, but who knows how accurate that really is? How would a genealogical paper trail back to Africa be possible for descendants of enslaved black people?
