As cool as this looks, and it does look cool, I would love to know what if any failure detection it has, considering it seems to automatically start the next print, i would hate to have a failed print turn into a damaged printer.
@maximlobovsky36

It detects parts that failed to remove and that will pause it's operation. Form 3 already has a built in ability to check the build platform for small debris that can fail a print. Form Auto also has a camera that will enable future remote monitoring and failure detection capabilities.
@Formlabs
Жыл бұрын
Form Auto will squeeze the Build Platform 2 multiple times. Then, Build Platform 2 will be scraped along the edge of the enclosure to remove any additional parts. There’s also a sensor that will alert you if there’s a part that didn’t come off and will pause if there’s an issue. We have multiple stages of checks to make sure the automation is working correctly and starting the next print is no issue.

Neat idea except what's removing the excess resin from eat print? All the part I saw looked like they were washed already sitting in that plastic bin also...

Satisfactory
Very cool, however I fear that without a wash and curing process prior to the drop into the basket that damage may be caused to the printed pieces.
nice !
Very cool.. now maybe try scaling up? Maybe a dual media / dual screen printer? Or maybe a coreXY bed to increase the vat size with the same size screen?

Super cool! I do wonder who the target customer for this would be however, perhaps a smaller company with small-med scale prototyping? I just feel like if someone needed a ton of parts, injection molding would still be much cheaper and faster to produce parts at scale

Both the shield and the bin are UV-resistant and light-blocking to prevent the resin on the parts from curing prematurely. This looks great! Will the 5l resin option come at a saving? As of right now, your 1l options are too expensive for end-use parts in most consumer applications, so my company went with a clunkier printer for the benefit of using cheaper resins from other manufacturers.

Hey I work in resin printing automation. So if you wash the part and do not summarily cure it, it sitting uncured and washed can open up the porosity of the surface, causing micron level deformation. I work with applications that require sub-40 micron accuracy, so this matters.

@@ElecTrackProjects Thanks for the insight. Could I assume that in loose tolerance applications that effect could be desirable? Like for coated parts, some porosity may help adhesion? I don't know how common coating resin parts is though it's not something I ever worked with.

@@NiSE_Rafter The porosity is not a good thing, as it increases the amount of moisture intrusion. For thinner parts, it can decrease material structural integrity

@@Formlabs that's actually pretty affordable considering the alternative is injection molding
But how efficiently this automation will work?… the Form 3 is not super consistent. There is some failed prints sometimes very often and you need to scrap the build platform after every print because sometimes there is cured resin called flakes adhered. And the parts do not detach that easily even with the new flexible build platform 2.
Aren't 3d printers for prototyping , what advantage has this got over traditional injection molding where speeds are almost 1000x

Shame the resin is so expensive. It’s the only think keeping me from switching over.
If this is anything like their firmware updates for their printers. It will have tons of issues.
this is super neat but i wish this was accessible in 3rd world country
Only thing stopping me from buying the form 3+ is the resin is too expensive around 150 per liter . Mass manufacturing at this price is not feasible.
So you're telling me it'll dump parts into a bin where they'll all fuse together?
Now if only SLA/DLP prints were functional enough to justify small-scale production 🙄🙄
Steve Jobs who
So.. if anything fails overnight you can now waste 6x the amount of resin you would just doing this manually.. does anything check the pieces were released before the next print? Or is this ‘quick removal’ system so good, we can just trust snug pieces to not crack the printer screen on the following layer?

It doesn't make any sense, where is the washing and cleaning area ? So you are telling me that the parts are produced clean with no resin ?
Looks cool but the clappy upbeat music is annoying
cant wait to see china copy it with 1/10 prices
Yikes
so you are using a regular flexible stainless steel base which you bend to pop off the prints and you call it the "patented technology" OK. modern technologies are so modern and technological.
Too bad it's just brittle plastic crap.
😂its automated but you will be repairing it all the time trust me. Formlabs I will not stop telling the world how you fleeced so many of of your core believers with expensive machines that don't work and destroy dreams. You are never to big to fall when you let a $600 Saturn S outperform your $3000+ machine. I'm sure others will chime in.
And when are you finally making it possible to label / name printers individually ? The dumb animals names will suck even more at scale production !!!! We need simple customization / numbering / labeling of printers. Not your hip and too cool animals names.
This is honestly one of the most toxic 3d printing companys in the industry. Had a Form 2 and realized quickly. Stay away and thank me later!
had worse possible experience with one of these printers. resin costs 10x more than ordinary ones, the printer itself costs 15x more than an elegoo. so the hint is: RUN
I can't wait to see this being used, incredible work!
