Been skating my first pair of the AVE’s for a couple months now and they’re still going strong. I honestly thought I’d rip right through the mesh on the sides at first glance but no holes yet. Shoe fits to my foot like sock and the grip and board feel are solid. Great shoe! Interested to try these out

Vans skate shoes have not been particularly high quality the past 5+ years though. They continually do mainstream collabs with their casual shoes and that’s what makes them money. It almost feels like they’re giving up on their specialty pro skate shoes. I had the first Chima’s and they were some of my fav skate shoes ever, quite durable and great to skate all around (board feel, cushioning, etc. all felt spot-on). I got the Chima 2’s a few years later and they are some of worst feeling shoes I’ve ever skated in. They’ve never made particularly durable shoes either, was genuinely surprised how durable the Chima 1’s were. Most of the other recent models I’ve skated feel a lot like the Chima 2’s and don’t come anywhere close to Nike or Adidas. I’d probably go with NB or Converse before Vans at this point.

They look like an incredible daily wear shoe because of the breathability and design, but would never skate them. One hour of skating and that knit upper is thrashed. Not the first shoes to try it and all previous attempts didn't work.

I was yesterday at vans store here in London. And I saw the knit version loved them but unfortunately they don’t have size 5.5 uk only 6 above. I truly love the ave I still have 1.0. Please vans make smaller sizes!!!!🙏🙏🙏

this plastic on the reel side needs to be a solid one piece and wraps under the wheel under the sole to really be effective

it does wrap under the shoe, the midfoot, the heep cup can't cause it's thre for added support but shoe can't be too stiff

AVE is a freak of nature...still skating at a very high level, but what works best for him.... most likely won't work for you...props to him and VANS but I won't be getting these...I wear vans as chillin, out on the Town showed but can't skate in em for shit.....good skaters can skate in flip flops. That waffling of the sole is going to pick up every little rock or debris. Very irritating wiping yourself on the ground trying to dislodge them. Sole bottom should be flat as possible. This is very gimmicky, sorry.

Damn, both of y’all are haters 😂 I’m an AVID Vans wearer (have been for YEARS, and I wear all mine religiously, and still hold up) and they honestly make some of the toughest shoes I’ve ever worn. I don’t know what kind of skating y’all do, per se, but to make a claim saying they “crumble to dust” is like an irrationally ridiculous claim lol. You gotta be hanging on the back of a dump truck on the highway dragging your feet if they’re doing what y’all claim. Just be easy on them and don’t intentionally try to trash them the moment you throw them on. #VANS4LIFE ❤️

@@Dalty7 if you're an "avid Vans wearer" how often are you wearing (and comparing) other brands? In recent years I've skated in Vans, lakai, éS, Emerica, Nike, New Balance, Adidas, Globe and DC. So how I skate (small ledges, rails, flat ground, 2 steps... I'm getting old) is irrelevant because I have a strong reference point regarding the level of durability, comfort and performance you can expect from a pair of skate shoes. Vans Rowan1 and skate old school and DC Kalis vulcs were an order of magnitude worse than every other shoe I've owned. I say the vans are crap quality because after a couple of skate sessions half the sole fell off on one shoe (and I had to keep tucking it back inside the foxing tape), large portions of the foxing tape was unglued (we are talking sections 3-4 inches unglued), so much stitching ripped after 1 session the shoe lost its form and the checkerboard label fell out. Compared to other shoes, the quality was rubbish, they didn't hold their form, they did not provide sufficient support, the edges of the shoe felt like they collapsed creating a fear I would roll an ankle and they were just uncomfortable. Plus the construction of their vulcs are very unrefined compared to other brands, with unpleasant harsh material and poor layering at joints creating blisters which I have never had from any other pair of shoes full stop. This is speculation, but I wasn't surprised to see Andrew Reynolds quickly move on from vans given the issues I had. I would say the soft squishy sole/inner combo is nice for a stroll to get a coffee but that's about all Vans shoes are good for.

Also, the fact you think you need to go "easy" on a pair of skate shoes is laughable. But is understandable if you're only wearing vans.
