Introducing A New Mated Queen Into A Nuc (Nucleus)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I show you how to introduce a new mated Queen into a beehive. In this case a small nuc.
The same process works for introducing a queen into a full size beehive or nuc.

Thanks for sharing. Where we are we would never install a queen cage with the opening pointing down like that. If any workers die they can potentially block the opening, preventing the queen from exiting.

That’s a fair point. But even if all the bees die in the cage leaving the queen inside. The bees outside the cage will eat the fondant and remove the bees. Same way they remove dead bees from the hive. Haven’t had a problem in 10 years of doing it. But I can see it may be plausible 😊

@@gwenyngruffydd😂 yes we have a very short I do use the poly hives they are the best I also don’t use top Entrances that’s a old method I wish more people would listen to the science behind only having a bottom entrance your bees stay warmer and they eat less

I've got a queen in the post, but haven't made my nuc up yet, will I have to keep the queen for a week in the cage or can I just introduce when I set the nuc up?👍

Make the nuc and introduce the Queen in the cage. Go back in 3 days cut queen cells and remove plastic cap. Put the cage back in. Check in a week to see if Queen is laying 😊👍🏻

Probably a stupid question (I've not got any bees myself but am researching for the future) but why do you not want them to use a queen they've hatched themselves?

Great question. Normally I would leave the original hive make their own queen. But in this case I was introducing a specialist bred queen into the hive and didn’t want the bees to kill that queen 😊
