This workshop will introduce you to the different types of solar electric systems; PV Direct, Grid Tied, Off Grid, Grid Tied with Battery Backup and Hybrid. The pros and cons of each type of system will be discussed, as well as equipment needed for each.

Heh that's funny. I used to live in Framingham and guessed that was the REI parking lot before you said so.
It would be helpful if you included the Critical Loads Panel in your diagrams
verrry good. and helpful
Thanks
Can I get PPT of this slide
Nice video. I've plenty sun shined roof top.Can I make a system which is Pv direct but gives me AC (500w) ? Just to reduce some electrcity consumption in day time. If yes...how many solar panel of what size should I buy and from where ?

monaxp606 Thank you for your interest in our video. Please feel free to call one of our sales representatives at 1(877) 878-4060 (Outside US: 1(978) 562-5858) and we would be happy to help you out with your solar project!
i have a question about the optional back up genset in the "off grid system". do we always have to connect it to the inverter or can we connect it directly to the panel board?

It depends on your setup. If your invert is an inverter/charger, so it has AC input to a charger for your battery bank, it is best to connect it to the inverter/charger, so it will charge up your batteries. That way, if your generator is making more power than you are using, it will also charge your battery bank. This way you will have power available for later when the generator is off, so you don't have to turn on the generator every time you want to turn on a light. If you don't have a charger for the generator, then you will have to wire it to your critical loads panel with a transfer switch to back sure it doesn't backfeed to places it shouldn't.
14:11 1.) Solar and wind 2.) 500 KwH per month 3.) 2-4 days 4.) The roof 5.) Mono panels made in USA (No specific brand) 6.) $10,000 What does time frame mean?

Time Frame = Is this something you are looking to do immediately, or just in research mode for "someday".

Unfortunately, $10k probably isn't enough to meet your requirements. You can see a solar system here that, depending on your location, can generate that much, but once you add batteries, the price is well above your budget. www.altestore.com/store/solar-power-systems/off-grid-home-solar-power-systems/off-grid-54kw-residential-solar-power-system-base-kit-p40583/ It can easily be met with grid-tie within that budget.
My Question is...Should I Run my Solar Panels in series so they are 24v and higher voltage than my battery bank ran parallel at 12v because I want a higher voltage coming down into a battery bank that is lower voltage? If I am using a 40a mppt does it matter? I am trying to be the most economical as possible in campervan

Wiring the panels in series allows you to save money by running smaller wire for the lower amps. As long as you have an MPPT charge controller, you can run the higher voltage array. MPPT charge controllers are rated by their output, o if you have a 12V battery bank x 40A charge controller, you can have up to 480W solar array.

thank you. one more question. Can I use a larger gage wire than is actually needed to be on the safe side for fire? would using a larger gage wire cause any kind of imbalance in my system?
Hello dear, Please can you tell me if I can charge my batteries of 12v and 20ah with charge solar controller pwm of 12v and 10a?

A 20Ah battery, assuming it is lead acid, doesn't want to be charged faster than about 3.5A. So you could use a 10A charge controller, but only have about 50W of solar panels on it.
