    So true about long range...video will go long before control signals. Furthermore, 2 watts would provide little increase above 1, as there is not a linear relationship between power and signal strength. Thanks so much for this video, I've been kind of resisting elrs a bit because I haven't had any range problems, however, it's getting harder and harder to buy certain quads that aren't ELRS.

    13:21 Was idly listening from my office desk in my sign shop as an RC Newbie looking to outfit my FMS Fox 3000. Your first couple of lines was spot on! People in most help videos are speaking english but the nature of the craft has so many abbreviations, all a newbie can hope for is knowledge obtained by osmosis. FPV, ELRS, BNF, PWM, FJB, the list is endless. When I discovered people fly long range on auto pilot and use FPV I was thrilled. My heart started pounding as I was alerted to the reality that me, a professional power Mac user can join in the fun without using a windows platform, which is harder to me than flying without AS3X and Safe. ExpressLRS-Configurator-1.5.5.dmg had me from hello! Currently, I'm all Spektrum but I will be buying all my gear through your links because your video made my day!

    You're welcome. It's definitely not for everyone and there are simpler options to be sure. What I like so much about ELRS is I can use it in everything: CRSF talks to flight controllers so Betaflight on quads, iNav on FPV fixed wing. It talks to the FBL I like to use so I can use it on helis. And it has PWM output options with telemetry, so I can use it on fixed wing for LOS. On top of that the receivers are fairly cheap.

    Not out of the box and I don't show it because I don't want to be the one responsible for telling everybody how to violate part 15 rules. So it's not a correction. The device allows it, but the manufacturer correctly set it to 1w to comply with the law.

    @@RCVideoReviewsoh I completely agree on you not showing how to circumvent the law, but it's a selling feature even if they never explicitly say it to not get their product banned. I've been flying LOS with ELRS for a while now and it's pretty rare to see Tpwr in the logs > 10mw. Every now and then a 50mw burst. 2w is just over the top and really not necessary unless you're doing some seriously long range and then you're going to have trackers, and some serious knowledge on video setups. So I figure at that point, you already know the hack. YT is a great teacher. Sometimes it's just better to leave certain things unsaid.

  • @RCVideoReviews

    @RCVideoReviews

    Жыл бұрын

    I cannot validate the question. Two points: 1) We're talking about radiated power, not electrical power. I don't believe it's a 1:1 correlation between radiated power and electrical power, but if it were 1:1 then: 2) 1000 milliwatts = 1 watt. W/V=A. So 1w/5v= 0.2a or WORSE: 2000milliwatts = 2 watts. 2w/5v = 0.4a I seriously doubt the pins in the JR bay would struggle *at all* with .4a. And I know the batteries in the Tx should be able to easily handle an incremental half amp. So personally--I doubt an external pack would be required. Finally, Radiomaster did not stipulate in their instructions that an external pack is necessary for 1w of transmit power.

    I was flying all weekend in Florida. It was 95 degrees outside yesterday. Telemetry on the micro showed RQLY about 95% or higher, TPWR at 25mw 99% of the time with one or two spikes to 50mw. So I had superb LOS radio performance throughout the weekend with a legitimate heat test on the micro. That said, my TPWR was low the whole time. If your use case mandates a higher TPWR, the aluminum case might make sense.

    @@ramtek2702 ELRS is great for aircraft, too. There are ELRS receivers with servo outputs. The protocol is very robust, long range and is comparable, if not superior to the major aircraft radios. I would highly recommend it. I am converting a Thunder Tiger Raptor 50 nitro helicopter from a spektrum DSMX receiver over to ELRS because it's more reliable.

    Hola amigo 👋 Ufff he tenido que esperar algo de tiempo para poder ver este increíble vídeo porque al ser en vivo KZread demora algun tiempo en tener los subtítulos y en mi caso necesito el idioma Español. Pero bueno ya todo listo, logré ver el vídeo completo 😃 y me ayudó muchísimo, aunque debo admitir que te he estado preguntando mucho por el Discord jajaja, gracias por ayudarme rápido por allá también. Tengo varias preguntas: 1- Cuando estás con el tema de actualizar el módulo ELRS, primero dices que lo conectas a una fuente de energía y luego dices que lo conectas a la computadora, básicamente pensé que la fuente de energía era la computadora desde un inicio y si me equivoco por favor 🙏 corrígeme. Solo pretendo actualizar por UART pero el conocimiento es poder y siempre hay que saber el potencial de cada equipo que esté en nuestras manos para sacar el máximo rendimiento posible. 2- El fichero o archivo LUA que colocas en la radio, de dónde se descarga? 3- Pretendo utilizar los nuevos receptores ELRS/PWM de Radiomaster y lógicamente no es igual que ese receptor que actualizaste por lo que me gustaría saber como hacerlo por UART. Saludos desde Cuba 🇨🇺 Excelente trabajo 👌 y gracias por tú tiempo. Sigue asi 💪

    The question on long range should be about video. Even at low power levels, ERLS is going to severely outfly most video tech without deploying some fairly advanced capabilities (antennas and trackers). When I flew long range, I kept RFLOS in mind so the farther I went, the higher I flew and that does not require penetration. I never saw a 3000ft tree, but I have seen a 3000ft mountain. Anything beyond 3 miles is going to quickly become much more of an issue about video than control link if using ELRS.

It may all happen so quick that you just see your drone drop... Hard to tell without actual penetration testing...
