Into the Southern Cascades - The Lassen Backcountry Discovery Trail

Released in 1996 by the Forest Service, the Mendocino segment of the California Backcountry Discovery was years ahead of its time. Additional segments, like the Lassen BDT were released in the years following. Come long with the OTG crew as they explore the southern Cascades along the 181 mile Lassen Backcountry Discovery Trail. Along the way they'll visit ancient plug domes, drive to the top of a dormant stratovolcano, traverse lava fields, visit Ishi's monument, and follow in the tracks of early settlers along the Lassen and California trails.
Route Guide & GPX File
The GPX file and Lassen BDT Route Guide include detailed information about places to camp and visit, recommended vehicle, best time to visit, technical trail ratings, and more.

Wow! I haven't been up there since the fires! 😢 Quite a shock. Once upon a time I did a lot of camping all around up there. Unreal how little snow there is on Lassen and Shasta!

How does your friend with the Ranger find it handles with a camper? What camper is it and do you know about what it weighs?

That guy with the flashing rear lights would drive me nuts if I was behind him . I know you must have mentioned it, but what time of year was this?

Consider a Solo Stove instead of fire rings. It uses less wood and easy to cook on. We prefer the Bonfire model because the usual store bought firewood fits nicely inside so the stove takes only a little more room than just hauling the firewood. Better in windy conditions also.

Why does everyone bumper lock each other ? Eating other peoples dust doesn’t seem good for the environment churning up dust and vehicle air cleaners.
