    my LAWD! Absolutely amazing and that's it, I'm selling my KX 250F and getting a CRF 450RL. I don't do many track days anymore and the RL will handle the trails I ride. I could tell that there weren't enough words to describe the joy and fun yall were having. That ride home had to be brutal. That was a great video bud Question: Will you be making a vid on the maintenance practices yall did while on the road? Or was It just basic maintenance and mostly worry free? I only ask because I was told that an oil change is needed every 600 miles on a dual sport bike, but that seems a little excessive. Since I will likely be joining the dual sport world in the near future I am about to be doing a lot of research and question asking.

  • @AusMoto

    @AusMoto

    10 ай бұрын

    Thanks Dave! I wish they sold the RL here in Australia, because I probably would have bought one, they look like a great bike! I probably won't because it was just very basic, cleaning, lubing and adjusting chains. For the CRF, you'll need to change the oil more often then on something like a WR250R/CRF250L which have long service intervals, so it wasn't something we had to consider on this trip.

    Mate I did the Simpson on a 450 Yamaha and that was two oil changes starting and finishing at Marree. Should have been three really and mine holds 1.1 lt of oil. It’s the downside of these bikes and probably why so many like DRz. Chain lube is tricky in sandy situations and daily checks, even twice daily if you drop them. Rad guards pay for themselves very quickly.

    Great video Josh. Well done! I notice neither of you had any sort of wind protection (wind screen) on your bikes. Do you regret this at all? You certainly covered a lot of distance at 100kph. I'm planning a big trip on my 300L and I DON'T want to put a screen on like you guys. Am I mad?

  • @AusMoto

    @AusMoto

    10 ай бұрын

    Thanks Leigh! We both used to rock windscreens but both had damaged them on various rides previous to this one, so we decided not to run them. Especially on the 250l, when dropped in the sand, the extra pressure on the front cowling when digging into the sand/mud caused it to snap multiple times. You feel more wind on your chest for sure, but it’s manageable. The only thing that sucks is bug splatter on your phone/navigation but other then that it’s fine!

  • @AusMoto

    Thanks heaps mate! They did pretty well for little 250s. I think a trip like this is probably best suited for a middleweight ADV bike, as there was lots of HWY and open dirt roads. The trade off is that you'll struggle more through the sand on a heavier bike, but definitely doable. If I did it again though, I wouldn't hesitate to do it on the WR and I plan to use it for the Simpson crossing next year which is a similar trip.

    @@AusMoto thanks buddy. Simson crossing will be epic. I just got a 1250 GS Adventure and not really sure if I am game to explore the Flinders with it yet. Just worried that it may be a little too big.

    Flinders is prime riding for the bigger ADV bikes I reckon. Only a few tracks that are technical, the rest are just scenic picturesque dirt roads@@AdvExOz

    What fuel range do you get from the safari tank? Currently have a ktm 890. Looking at getting a second bike - wr250r or drz 400. Had a drz before so know these bikes well but not the wr250r. Thanks.

    Hey mate, I get about ~350kms with Safari. If you go the 18L IMS, I believe you can stretch it out to over 400km!

    Hard to ride around the world when you got a job that’s not KZread champ. I’d consider 4300km’s in 9 days with a lot of off-road, a big ride in my books.
