Graffiti, it's all over the world unfortunately , as far as I'm concerned it's just vandalism with a paint can .

Thanks Gary, that was a lovely cruise with nice weather for a change, with great historical info' also, but it's a shame about the lack of talented artists. I hope that you are all doing really well. Have a great week. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Our introduction to the canals was from "Planet craft" on the Star City arm (!) in 1975 - the year of a major drought !. No water, lots and lots of weed. Wecruised as far as Wedgewood and return in a week !! Didn't put us off - stopped boating in 2020.....

That's a lot of boating you've done there. I do enjoy cruising through these places but I also enjoy seeing the other side too

Hi Gary and Nicky ...... loved this episode havin been born and bred in Brum .... at 23:57 you pass under bridge 101 which is St Andrews Road leading to Birmingham City Football Club ground ..... two houses up from that bridge was my Grandmotbers home and around 53 years ago I would have been in her back garden, throwing stones into the canel ...... hoping to hear the splash...... wonder if you passed over some of my stones ...... brought back some real strong memories .....like the fireman opening the little red gates to draw water up from the canel to fill their engines ...... there was no graffiti back then ..... keep up the fab work and happy travels.

That was great. I’m from Birmingham so for me cruising through Salford junction was special. I stayed at gas street basin last weekend and found it was amazing and want to stay again. Took me 9 hours from GSB to minworth, 27 locks solo and some of the Aston locks were interesting as there wasn’t really lock landings and I was tied to a rail at one point 😅 I’m thinking of doing my first vlog, will backdate to when I moved onboard in January

I've been to Gas Street too and loved it but I've never took Chugs there. The Taylors vlogged it a couple of weeks ago and it looked hard

That first lock at Bordesley Junction is a nightmare if you’re single handed - I struggle to get off the boat onto the towpath on the right hand side and I have to hold the boat on the centre line as there’s nothing to tie it to - I will admit that the last time I went down this lock that I left the bottom gates open as the wind was blowing and I just couldn’t get back off the boat safely and secure it - this lock really could do with updating to make it safe for all users

  • @GaryCaptainPhillips

I'd of done the same with the gates, it's so dangerous there and there's no thought of boater safety at all

Every days a school day !!!! I’m an ex Firefighter and canal boat owner but never realised what those holes in the bridges were (in fire service technical terms that’s were the hard suction would go) To be fair where I served there was no canals I have pumped (lifted) out of a dock(sea water) but never a canal There is a limit of hight you can lift water with a fire appliance i think it’s about 4 to 5 meters so they must have been on the limit

Thanks for what you did David and as you say 'every days a school day." You only see these bridges in the larger cities/towns etc but they're certainly reminders of sad days

My goodness. Traffic lights on the canals, two paddles on one... are these signs of the Apocalypse? Just kidding. Do you have room for a freezer? I must say that today was a VERY rare occasion that I had to work on a Saturday here in Houston. It was a long day. But coming home to the peacefulness of a Gary & Co. vlog was just the right way to decompress. Thank you all. Leigh

We moored at Star City in March and all was ok, just one other boat with us. Garrison locks were a problem, one completely drained pound, I've never been through without a drained or low pound. The services at the top lock have been wrecked, we last used them 6 years ago.

" The old bottom road" was the name given to this stretch . Hated by working boat crews who got paid on it. We are ahead of you at Napton on the hill. Curses the North Oxford had a land slip. Yes Star City we moored for 1 night and as you said plan to stop and no space a night mare. I suppose you could breast up . Safe journey travels all see you at Crick.

Its such a shame that such beautiful buildings etc are ruined like this. The councils would have an impossible job however, if they remove it the yobs would just come back. Believe it or not they do 'art' tours and walks through there too
