    Awesome! I just upgraded to the Mariner 4, had a 3. Have a newport vessels 55 lb trolling motor and 55 amp mighty max battery and another battery even more powerful, solar panels, two 8inch speakers, the awning. I like the floor idea and now I'm getting a fish finder. Once I get my floors in with carpet I'm going to install two swivel seats and a table in the middle to play cards or watch TV, cook, whatever. Awesome modifications and thank you for the ideas!

    Great Rig Neil! Your ideas allowed me to modify my new Mariner 4 using a lot of your specs but I added a Bimini Cover, transducer mount attached to my sliding tray, and Solar panel that flips out on the other side of the tray that charges my deep cycle, and then I attached lighting to the Bimini cover for night fishing! Thank you for a well explained video and time to provide details.

    Very cool! I appreciate the video. The only thing you could do better is 1) paint the untreated plywood unless you never plan to get it wet (it'll rot eventually and just get nasty with all the fish guts, spills, etc. 2) Post links to the products you bought (always a nice touch) 3) Definitely need to toss the motor mounts and get something that'll lock it in place better I love the fishing rod holders! They are very cool.

    Is the rubber floor of the boat underneath the plywood filled up with air or does it stay deflated if you add a plywood floor?

  • @ndettwiler

    @ndettwiler

    5 жыл бұрын

    There is an inflatable keel in the rubber floor of the boat, with an inflation valve at the front passenger's feet. I cut a hole in the plywood floor to give access to this inflation valve. I wait until the boat is on the water, then give the front passenger a hand pump and ask him/her to pump up the keel.

The front passenger inflates the keel once we're away.

    That's correct. I cut 4 pieces of PVC pipe, approximately 2-3 inches long, then sliced a section out of each, lengthwise. These are screwed into the bottom of the tray. They "clip" onto the side rails with downward pressure.

    Awesome video and modifications! You said you already had the gray connection part (that thing your bungee strap is attached to) but did you buy or it did it come with your other boat? I'm trying to find some to purchase to accessorize my Mariner with but can't seem to find those just by themselves. Do you know what the actual part name is? Also, having your transducer installed on the side of the boat like that, have you noticed any misreadings?

    Do you know the dimensions of the floor? I plan on getting some wood to make floors and use marine carpet. Wondering if you just use the plastic floor as a template, or if you had to take a little more off for when you apply the marine carpet? I've had a mariner 3 raft and now a 4 but had issues with the one I had sending it back because the seam was leaking.

  • @ndettwiler

    @ndettwiler

    2 жыл бұрын

    I used the full 8' length of a sheet of plywood. I did use the plastic floor as an initial template. I then did several rounds of test fitting and trimming until I got comfortable with the fit. I paid close attention to how much pressure the corners were putting on the boat. Width ended up being 33.75".

  • @ndettwiler

    @ndettwiler

    2 жыл бұрын

    I never carpeted my floor. I didn't think it was a good idea, since it's going to get wet. I would consider laying a trimmed piece of carpet on top of the wood floor, for comfort, but I wouldn't attach it to the wood. The boat is too heavy already, so I also take weight into consideration, so probably won't do carpet at all.

    My first Mariner 4 came with a defect - a small hole that was in a bad spot and could not be patched. I filed a warranty claim with Intex, and they had me cut a valve out of the defective boat (rendering it unusable) and mail it in. They sent me a new boat (just the boat - no oars, valves, accessories, floor, slats, etc.). So I had an extra boat body that I harvested parts from.

    Hi Mark, it's been in storage since last used in the fall of 2018; I lost my ability to transport it, so it doesn't get used any more. It saw the water 3 times, with no issues on a private 65 acre lake, so I can't vouch for any long-term durability, but the Mariner line from Intex is known for being tougher than say their Excursion products, which are more like a pool toy's vinyl. Feel free to ask additional questions by just replying in these comments.

    Those photos may help, but honestly the best thing to do is trace the outline of the stock floor onto the plywood, cut it out, and then begin removing material from the edges, and rounding the edges, until you have a fit you're comfortable with.

    I bought the Mariner 4 for ~$180 shipped. It normally drops to this price a few times per year from various sources, although there is currently a shortage and the prices have skyrocketed. The seats were ~$25 each from Academy Sports. The swivels for each seat were ~$7 each. The seat posts were probably around $20 each (can't remember exactly). I think my plywood for the floor (and the sliding shelf) was ~$35. All of that PVC was probably ~$40. The Intex motor mount was around $20. The Scotty glue-on pad which holds the tranducer was ~$10. There's probably another $20 in hardware for the seat posts and the transducer mount. Hope that helps!

    @@mattbiallas it does a fair job. I fish a 65 acre private lake and have no need to go fast. The 30lb thrust motor doesn't run down my battery much, so I actually would prefer it to a larger motor. I have caught wipers while trolling in this boat at about 1.5mph, so fast enough for me.

  • @ndettwiler

    The Mariner 4 has an inflatable keel in the floor, but not an inflatable floor. The wood floor has to be installed in the boat before the 4 wall chambers are inflated. Then the inflatable keel can be inflated. I like to launch the boat before inflating the keel, but I then inflate the keel immediately, as it helps provide structure to the floor.
