George Harrison took the reaction to John’s comment in stride by saying “they had to buy our records to burn them”, meaning at least they still made money.

what an intelligent, insightful, wise, decent, articulate, self possessed person…and a bit of John’s fire when the interviewer offered that a couple of well known filmmakers felt that Magical Mystery Tour was one of the best films ever made… “who are they to say so?, and you’ve fallen for it”….brilliant

@@allymayful well, while I can’t speak for Julia, I would say it is because as she says in interviews, she just knew John as john, her brother. And it was the rest of the world that went crazy over them, and adored everything they did. I include myself in this, I/we would be happy to even have a film of them sitting on a bench staring at the wall… And while magical mystery tour features these four guys and their music that we love so much, it is hardly “one of the best films ever made”…. so as John‘s sister, she probably shares Johns feelings of “we’re just a band, who made it very, very big, thats all” take on the Beatles. She’s obviously a bit cultured as well, so she bristles a bit when people place unrealistic praise, or inappropriate praise on a song, film or any project that they may have done, just because we have this great love for them and their work. we could say; “I really love magical mystery tour because it has the Beatles and their music in it”….. but we wouldn’t necessarily have to say it’s “one of the best films ever made” … not saying that, wouldn’t have to take away from our appreciation of the film, we can still love it just as much because it’s them… It doesn’t detract from their value to not hail that movie as one of the greatest piece of art ever.

@@skipskiperton4992 l don’t think the producers said it was the best film. They valued it as a new concept in film making, that they enjoyed studying at University, or in their youth. I love listening to her too. A lovely, down to earth, intelligent lady, who l would have imagined having a valuable friendship with John.

First of all, MMT was very Avant-Garde type & not meant to be conventional in the first place. It’s a made for TV musical film, not a motion picture. Listed as comedy/surreal humor. Paul called MMT a success failure when interviewed by David Frost in 1967, also stating, he quite liked it, admitting it was “bitty” but was supposed to be like that but people were looking for a plot but there wasn’t one. What McCartney has since said about MMT if he was indeed ever asked, I’ve not read anything about that. McCartney conceived of the film & has been credited with leading the project. Now it has a cult following because it was The Beatles featured in the film along w/of course providing a Beatle music soundtrack

Amazing interview.. so insightful.. I was born in 1973.. discovered the Beatles around 1984 or 85 Abouts.. I had 45s of Twist and Shout, Please Please Me, I should have known better, there’s a place.. I was about 12 or 13 years old or so. My parents had a box of 8-tracks and I would sit on the floor with these gigantic headphones on and listen to Magical Mystery Tour and take note of how the train world go from one side to the other and just stare at the bazar cover. My friends mom down the street gave me the White album record a few years later and I would set the speakers up on my desk and put my head in between the speakers and sing “Across the Universe.” And “Julia” totally immersed..

This is all very nice but you will get about as much information you didn't already know off this as one would if they interviewed your mother or brother about you, or Less because She was not a part of John's life even as a child, they never lived together. How much real insight into me for example, could my mother or brother have, almost Zero. "Oh, he was a Cute Baby, ..so chubby, .." 🤗 ..Nothing. I take it all back, she's Wonderful.❤

An ethic that is fast disappearing with modern media. Not saying that my curiosity is still live and kicking - but l don't expect it to be satisfied.

A few visits to his house in the 1960's (probably out of guilt) - a ticket to the Hard Days Night premiere with other family members and a couple letters in about 1975 that's about the extent of their relationship after their slaggy mum damaged that poor police officers car. Still it's a good claim to fame isn't it? and there's money to be made out of the more guilable Beatles fans.😊

@@twistoffate4791 Any lack of contact with anyone for any reason I believe has to do with Ono. She controlled what was going on there even with phone calls as it’s said Julian’s calls were not always put through to John. Lennon talked about going back to England many times but never did as at first, he didn’t have a green card. And when he obtained it, there supposedly was still some worries but he went to Japan w/Ono so I’m getting a control factor out of this on Ono’s part
