Dreams of the Carrion Kind was one of the greatest death metal albums of all time. I really hope he does a follow up album.

Agree...but I don't want a follow-up album (the legacy of Disincarnate remains perfect that way).

Yes, it is a masterpiece.
I listen to any album James Murphy is on. Top notch musician.
James Murphy goes down as possibly the best lead guitarist in Death Metal period. As a guitarist I really can’t think of anyone except Jeff Loomis but styles are so different. Murphys fluid lead and distinct sound is instantly recognisable. Great interview

Loomis sounds like AI generated stuff. Murphy is the real deal.
This fucking awesome, I was hoping to find an interview with him talking about being in Death and Obituary in 1990.

Hell ya man that’s exactly why I wanted to talk to him
Thanks for this interview. James Murphy's work on Spiritual Healing makes it my favorite Death album.
hands down my favorite deathmetal guitarist.!!!!!!!!
I was already into Slayer and metallica as a senior in high school and then two albums were released (1) Spiritual Healing by death and (2) Harmony Corruption my Napalm death. That was next level shit out of the gate!
Honestly anything from James Murphy is a treat at this point. Love his work and he is a huge inspiration as a guitarist.
James is a hero of mine. Wether it was death, obituary, testament, disincarnate, his first solo record,he was awesome on all that. Seen him live with testament playing a srv fender and killing shit. At the infamous alrossa villa. I was yelling out disincarnate songs lol.
James is spot on. Back in the day before the internet, I never would have heard of Angel Witch, Diamond Head or Budgie if Metallica had never name dropped and or cover their tunes. That's how we used to learn about music.

Foreals bro I used go to my local record store and most of the music they carried was metal of all kinds I must of been 12 yrs old but I had a brother that would tell me about disincarnate death or I would look at the album covers and be like damn that cover art looks wicked lol. And there was tape/ cd trading / borrowing.
Man this was a great interview. Nice to hear James again.
This was one of our most anticipated Albums of All Time.🤘🏽As soon as we knew that James Murphy had his own Band🤯,The cover, the vocals and the sound where instant classic. Was the First cassette that we all wanted original copies😂.
This masterpiece was unfortunately neglected by the death metal public back in the day. I remember the week it came out, being such a massive James Murphy fan, it was a no brainer. I was living in Melbourne and I immediately bought the vinyl. Then I purchased the CD. WOW what an album. The writing, the production, the atmosphere.. a DM Classic! I still have both!
We need a part 2 I didn't hear anything about the gathering or working with Devin Townsend on his solo records. Or battling cancer. We could get it a whole other solid hour
Legend.... When I was young and digging threw cds. I'd always look for his name in guitars.... Obituary early stuff. Then seeing he was with Death....and on and on
This interview is excellent!
I would love to hear something new from James, whether it's solo or with a band. He was at his peak with Disincarnate, and from there he was unstoppable! His work with Testament was/is like a spiritual experience! I remember recording 30 seconds of a Disincarnate song on my parents answering machine back in the mid 90's, and the reactions I got from people who called were funny, even though it was the last track of the album, so it wasn't too over the top 😂
This guy created yourself style of playing extreme music, definitely a guitar-master.All projects carried out by him in a couple of bands where there was your stake in work process of building up were high-profile success at all.
Wicked band. I was hooked on Death from second one!🤘
Great interview bud.
One of my favorite guitarists. Disincarnate’s album was great, I hope Murphy can do another and have more forceful vocals with intonations to highlight vocal hooks, like the first generation of death metal, early Death, early kreator, early pestilence, and Possessed.
Great Interview
Only 5 minutes in. So awesome.
Was looking up the guitarist "Mark" and it looks like he played with Tempter and a killer song "Don't Get Mad.... Get Evil." Love that song!!!
I remember when James had a column in one of the guitar magazines. I wish he'd teach some technique on KZread. The guy is an incredible player.
I love James he’s such a shredder but I cracked up how many times he says “ya know”😅

It's honestly🤘, soooooo amazing hearing all this incredible history on one of the RIPPINIST time for just ballz-out works of art!!! Thank u.....and Metal-Murphy fuckin rules....and a great treat was roadrunners anniversary show...gawd damn Glen Benton comes out in that armour.....priceless and just 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
This interview is omazing the gentiles bless god james is cooL
I'm currently working on an old school DM album and the entire album is going to be about the psychology of christian beliefs.
Hope James will do a follow up opus to the *Dreams of the Carrion Kind* album in 2023
The Murphy is the cure!! \m/
Dating this chick and she was trying to explain what the bloody hell ASMR was and I was like"i know you hate metal but check out this solo from this amazing guitarist James Murphy from this band called Obituary! CAN YOU FEEL IT?!"
A+
55:40 Please write a book, James!
I always loved James Murphy's guitar playing. It was so awesome when he got in Testament. A thing that bums me some now. Although James Murphy played Alex stuff great and still had his own awesome touch and tone. Alex when playing Murphy's solos. He doesn't play them like iconic solos and seems to wing whatever.

Alex doesn’t have the same level of picking technique that James has. Two different styles, so he can’t play it perfect I guess.

Great interview, interesting to hear how James got the gig in Agent Steel, Death & Testament. He later auditioned for Megadeth too and he probably would have gotten that gig too if it wasn't for his health issues at the time. IMO He's a much better guitarist than the guy that Megadeth hired (Al Pitrelli) at the time.

Thanks! Didn’t know that about Megadeath that’s wild
I got DOTCK went it first came out. Always loved it and was always surprised that the group never really took off. I think it was a matter of bad timing. Death metal was already on its way out of popularity by 93
Articulate, intelligent, talented. Cool guy.

Just "writting" why This amazing musician..didn't said anything while Chuck could stated his opinion..obout his narcisisitic point of view...I'm not talking shit about him... just hear him!!!
Spiritual Healing is such a killer record, the leads are soo good but also the rhythm playing is also really good, its a very listenable record compared to some of the later death records, and the band sounded great live, a lot of us were bummed when James and chuck parted, obituary was such a boring band by comparison
I despised those guys who seemingly overnight changed their music taste from death metal to grunge when I was in middle school.
Awesome story. The most disappointing part is you cut him off to tell him that 1 more question cuz you gotta for a jog. Nxt time if u dont have the time, don't do an interview
