Amazing that 3 years later Pink Pony Club would be a centerpiece on a milestone album, make huge amounts of people cry while dancing and 4 years later hit the top 100!!!!!

Now, tell us, who's another artist you think has made significant strides in their career?

I've listened to and learned about this amazing young woman since seeing her on the Colbert show Feb. 15, 2024. I was also very lucky to see her Richmond show in May. Congratulations on both of your extensive 2020 and 2022 very fortuitously timed and empathetically conducted interviews of her, and for posting them on youtube. As much as I've learned about her since February, I have to say your two videos are the best single sources I've yet to encounter about her Rise and Fall (and Rise) journey. And my goodness, Chappell is almost as wonderful an interview subject as she is astonishing a musical artist. And "artist" is indeed the core of her. Our great artists (and scientists... shout out to science) pursue the truth, regardless of where that takes them, however inconvenient, painful, alienating or isolating the truth turns out to be. However hard it can make them be to love sometimes, as Chappell lamented. It has injected intellectual and physical distance between Chappell and her family, and in this 2020 interview we can feel her longing for that connection coming through the screen. Hearing from her about her isolation there, in this May 2020 covid lockdown interview, is even much more poignant in retrospect, knowing as we do now the new song she was speaking about, California. Her eyes misted up as she tried to explain it. She was hurting. Similarly when she talked about having tried to create new friends and a whole new life in LA. Again, we know in retrospect that at time her income from music was about to almost totally dry up. And that her multi-year relationship with her live-in boyfriend would soon collapse contemporaneous with her recording contract. Insult on injury on injury, he would throw her stuff out of the apartment and leave her without a place to stay. The emotional toll from pursuing art -- again, truth, as best you can discern it -- can be terribly high. Much of her struggle had been because she lived until 19 in a very conservative, very religious family and culture, and -- - call this just my opinion, those who choose to -- religion pursues something other than objective truth. It pursues peace of mind, comfort, community, conformity, less fear of our mortality, and a sense of security and safety in numbers. As Kayleigh, the construct that was the very cornerstone her loving family based their lives on, she simply couldnt accept as reality. I understand. When I was 5 my 8 year old sister died and it re-shaped every family member's lives from that day forward. When my parents told me at 5 that we'd be with her again in heaven, I believed them. Believed them until, years later, I figured out that, no, we won't. Nobody will ever see her again. But to this day loved ones say we will. And it's a hard difference to tread around. Such stresses, though, at least can drive the creation of great art, which "Midwest Princess" irrefutably is. In the evangelical-sounding Christian church Kayleigh Amstutz was brought up in... was it Southern Baptist? or Pentacostal, even? ...the preacher would announce the arrival of something invisible, exhort his congregation to "FEEL the Holy Spirit entering the room," and induce them express that supposed feeling, physically and audibly. Which Kayleigh never truly felt. Later, in 2019 in LA she finally DID feel a spirit fill a room and consume her, but it was instead in The Abbey, this supposed den of iniquity, of everything she'd been told was ungodly. There she had a powerful, life-changing even, personal experience. It also was perfect for making into passionate and powerul art! Pink Pony Club was born. That rocket that stubbornly wouldn't quite launch, Project Chappell Roan, finally found the right fuel and tapped it. IGNITION and BLASTOFF! Thank you again for these two video chapters so far. They're going to still be valuable to both fans and music historians after we're all gone. I eagerly look forward to the 2024 chapter.

I hope you get another interview, in this, her Elvis 1956 year. If you do wind up in contact with her, please let her know a Superman comic book released Wednesday, July 17, 2024, on one of it's variant covers, gives a nod to her "wand and a rabbit" lyric. In DC Comics (Superman Batman Wonder Woman Catwoman Aquaman Flash etc) Justice League member Zatanna is a magician. She dresses sexy in fishnets but, defying old norms, she isn't the eyecandy assistant, she is the magician herself. On this comic cover, Zantanna's doing the classic make-your-assistant-levitate trick. It helps that her assistant is Superman. But behind them her rabbits have escaped. One has gotten its paws on -- and could even be enjoying? -- her wand. I'm familiar with the artist's interests and predispositions. I'm certain this is no coincidence, Cho''s been vibing on Red Wine Supernova. The comic book is "Superman #16, Cover C, Frank Cho Card Stock Variant." My daughter turned me on to Chappell Roan and she really is a great talent and I love her music and her vibe. I think she is going to be a mega star! Look up Sir Elton's chats with and rapturous endorsements of Chappell. He adores her. he and his husband recently had dinner with her. I was very fortunate two months ago to see Neil Young and Crazy Horse play a kickass show, and the same month see Chappell perform live all 14 songs of "Midwest Princess" plus Love Me Anyway and Good Luck, Babe. A lot of people will eventually realize that Chappell is a once in a generation talent and has made an album that transcends genre, era, and orientation and is going to be listened to for as long as humans listen to recorded music.

Maybe revisit this now and appreciate it as part of her journey? I haven't even gotten to watch it yet but I know she's generally reserved and understated and I suspect that's what was coming through here. Almost everyone is rooting for a girl like this who came from humble beginnings, fought through set backs, and then found success when they were on the verge of giving up. And to top it off she's a kind-hearted and down to earth person (except with indie pop boys)
