What a lovely man. No one knows the "real" Andy Kaufman but I like to think it's interviews like this that bring us closest to his "real" self.

I saw the movie first time in 2001 but back them I didn't understand it much and I had no internet to find out about this guy. I have been a fan of Elvis a few years too. But better late than never. I read there will be new book out in October by Lynne Margulies and Bob Zmuda. Looking forward to it!

I think this is Andy's only 100% serious, non-put-on interview (okay, minus the part about wrestling being real). I hate to psychoanalyze, but it's so telling that Andy started performing as a kid for hours and hours...just for himself. And then his baby sister who couldn't talk. This was close to the end of his life, and I wonder if he just wanted to open up a bit.

Everyone who thinks this is a fabrication, "you are lost in Andy's ways, the joke is on you and maybe someday you'll get it". Everyone who made a hair comment, "you are small minded, this is about Andy, not the interviewers hair. You are missing the point of this video." This interview, to me, is very insightful. A very rare view of the "Real Andy". He's so great, his genius overpowers your better judgement. HAHAH... the legend lives on.....

Andy WANTED THAT DIPSHIT!!!! andy would love the fact people think he's alive, he talked about the idea of faking his death long before he really passed, Lynne and bob keep the gag going FOR andy because that is what Andy wanted, andy did not wanna be forgotten. just because bob makes up stories or over dramatizes things doesn't mean he or Lynne want money, andy would appreciate every bit of this. you really are not a fan of andys and do not understand his work at all.

Dustin Wilson even his brother said that he didn't love her.she just happened to be his girlfriend when he died.i am a fan more than you bitch but I'm not stupid like you.zmuda and margulies exist and make their living only because of andys fame. so don't tell me that all their books documentaries and interviews is because they want to keep his legacy alive.

Dustin Wilson what?his brother played the Tony Clifton character for years and even staged an incident with Andy's supposed daughter coming forward.and he didn't make any money out of that unlike zmuda and margulies.what did you want him to say? That his dead brother is still alive?

After this, Andy brought the Kleenex box adorned with a different garnishment on Letterman in February, claiming he still had "a cold". Either he was setting up the 'death bit' in advance or he knew he was sick long before letting anyone else know. He also mentioned fasting to beat "the flu" in April '83 to a Glamour mag journalist he wrestled. Hard to believe a health nut like him would avoid the doctor if he was sick that long. But maybe he thought he could beat it with alternative medicine. He seemed like that type too...with the psychic surgery & TM :\ He does sound nasally congested here & on Letterman, and the coughing is apparent in his November appearances with Lawler & at the Improv (where he breathlessly performs on the congas & does his laundry). I tend to think he had AIDS & knew he was dying because his peers were dropping like flies from the disease. He spent time in San Francisco near the Castro--a gay district--while living with Lynne. AIDS was largely a gay disease at that time in the U.S. And of course incurable. Many celebs lied about having various cancers so the truth wouldn't come out. Andy died a full year before Rock Hudson, the "first celebrity AIDS death". There was no HIV test at that time. To be clear: I think Andy was a sex addict rather than a strictly gay man. He could've contracted it anywhere: the brothels, the college wrestling tours, the bathhouses. One thing is certain: the whole "his only vice was chocolate" thing is crap.

@666fannyfart I understand your dilemma...but please don't side with the genitalia! Genius is always discernable (as I'm sure you know) by the ability to raise the question in the audience "Penis or Genius!?"...it is nearly always the case that the artist called emphatically "Genius" is the biggest Penis... Andy's Genius was in just the ambiguity that you feel...I think he would have loved the idea that people didn't know-he certainly created the "penis" character evident in this interview...
