Kaufman traverses depths here few dare enter. He addresses the primal symbiotic nature of a relationship gone sour. He dredges up pain and suffering that is hard to watch, yet one can not look away. His catharsis is subtle, yet strikes as a sledgehammer. Andy Kaufmans performance of "I trusted you" is like looking at the sun. Illuminating, blinding at that same time. What he's done here is beautiful. It's a social commentary about innocence lost. There are relationships formed by the passage of time that call for honesty and acceptance of every bit of who the person on the other end is. Who are we but the amount of trust we can give? If that significant other hurts us, all we can do is proclaim these words. "I trusted you."
@eightyEightism13 жыл бұрын
So good. Could be said he was ahead of his time but there hasn't been anyone since that does this as distinctly. Kaufman was the master at messing with the audience, within 90 seconds they're clapping along to this 'song'. Throw in the Elvis dancing, being asked back for an encore (of course all part of it), pointing at the guitarists as he sings and the possibly planted screaming girls; brilliant sketch. And he only had to write three lines.

there is something miraculous about this video. It doesn't matter what mood I'm in or how angry I am : by the end of this performance I am ALWAYS laughing. Not just chuckling or snickering but snorting, honking, crying and spastic with laughter. And I don't even know why. And I don't want to know. Thank You Andy!!!
I love how near the end he points at the musicians and they clearly panic and back away because they have no clue what he might do next.

@@Pablo-wj4hb Hard to quantify it exactly. Part of it is his extreme level of commitment. It's such an incredibly simple idea. It's one sentence! But it says a lot. @@u2soadfan Thanks for the reply, I see what you're getting at he definitely performs with a lot of heart. I feel like it also hints the idea that the audience trusted him to deliver a comedic experience , a trust which he enjoyed abusing (in a funny way). one funny this he did was read an entire book to the audience instead of performing, and then he asked the audience if they would instead like to hear a record, he put on a record of him reading the same book! lol
This makes me so happy when I have really bad days like today, thank you Andy!

Andy Kaufman is a highly evolved spiritual being (or HEB). His harmonic oscillations are the ultimate unification of the extra dimensional convergent chakra being energies to form a togetherness of self.

Andy just summed up almost every billboard hit for the past 60s years.
Idk the first time I saw it I laughed out loud once he started really over the top dancing and screaming. Andy was one of the pioneer and better satirist. His whole career was based on mocking people and what they like to their face. I just like his attitude, he was an experimental comic and not everything is gonna be gold. I didn't really care for Latka which is his more "famous" bit. The Kaufman-Lawler stuff was genius, not hysterical but genius none the less.
A brilliantly bizarre performance artist. ☺
