Interview: Marty Walden on Living with HIV / AIDS and Finding Joy | The Life-Saving Divorce

What if you get an STD during your marriage even though you were faithful and didn't have any high-risk behavior? In today's interview, Marty Walden, a Christian homeschool mother of five, tells about the day she discovered she had HIV-AIDS. Even though her health had declined for many years, neither she nor her doctors had any idea it was HIV. She had been rejected for a life insurance policy, and it took 6 months for them to tell her why. The horrible news shattered her world. Now, two years later she talks about what she's learned, how she deals with it day by day, and shares her joy and hope with others going through this kind of devastating news.
About 23% of AIDS victims worldwide are women. Marty was married, a woman in her 60's, and a middle-class wife and mother. Today she goes public and tells her story.
After a failed life insurance application, she received a letter telling her she 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐇𝐈𝐕 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞. In that moment her life hit the wall, and she decided to divorce her husband and regain her physical and emotional health.
She says: “When I went to the Infectious Disease Clinic and my bloodwork was run I discovered I am indeed HIV positive, with a diagnosis of AIDS because of my compromised immune system. My husband was brought in to be tested and his diagnosis was the same. Before the diagnosis I had struggled for years as I watched my health deteriorate. Thousands of dollars were spent with functional medicine, protocols and supplements, seeing every doctor possible and trying to get better physically. I would later understand this was HIV attacking my body.”
FIND OUT HOW MARTY HAS DEALT WITH THIS DISEASE for the past 2 years, AND HAS FOUND JOY AND HOPE amid THIS TRAGEDY. This year, two years after the diagnosis, she felt the Lord was calling her to go public and start a ministry to others with incurable STDs.
