The rapport between them after forty years of marriage is incredible. So glad this is online. RIP Aline Kominsky-Crumb

She was an abusive opportunist. Kominsky-Crumb and her husband had an open marriage, and Kominsky-Crumb's "second husband", French printmaker Christian Coudurès, lived with the family (as did his daughter, Agathe McCamy, who assisted Kominsky-Crumb in coloring her comics)
Aline, what a sweetheart. god rest her soul
RIP Aline Kominsky-Crumb 💔
I'm a boomer have always loved r crumb from the first time I picked up one of those comic book. I treasured those iconic drawing and funny storyline. He's a legend.
Living Legend! Feel fortunate I'm breathing the same air, drinking the same water "living in the same times" as Robert Crumb❤
It seems to me that Robert crumb has become more at ease. Lovely to see.
RIP Aline Kominsky-Crumb I just found out you aren't with us, thank for the comics and being with my hero Mr.Crumb.
Would have been nice if Aline Kominsky-Crumb was acknowledged in the title too, given that it was both of them interviewed. Especially as they point out how few women were cartoonists when they started out, she was a pioneer. Otherwise, great interview, left me wanting to hear more.

there were all sorts of cartoonist that were women before the rotate were way better. Weirdly pre feminist cartoonists were excellent.
Except for getting older, this couple didn't change. Great interview.
I was first introduced to Crumb's artwork in 1970 while serving in Vietnam. I read some early issues of ZAP Comics.

How does this interview have no comments?! Absolutely hilarious interactions and classic Crumb vibes lol
We have seen Aline Kominsky legs and boots before..........We have compassion for Mr Crumb.
Does anybody else think that Aline oozes sexiness in this interview? Robert Crumb has great taste.
A true master artist ... cudos.. mr crumb
I’m a retired pressman. Thank you Robert.
People say that they don't like American accents but Mr Crumb's accent is easy on the ear. 😊
2024-04-14: Aline died in 2022. She knew The Fugs. She was also a cartoonist. A cartoonist daughter. IMHO They were both worthy of an interview. Thanks for posting❗️

her comics weren't very good. Do you think her being married to Crumb is the reason to give her equal billing? Is this about fairness to you? Or are you consistent with this opinion and you want husbands of famous women to be interviewed too? Politicos are so tiring nowadays. Anti art too.
She kept herself in great shape.

Sadly she died last year☹️
I grew up reading and collecting his creations along with other underground literature and comics.
He's so damn familiar thanks to his many self portraits where he prematurely aged himself.
Thank you, this is fantastic
it would be nice to hear the interviewer's voice at the same level.
The fact that she went and got such a drastic face lift (two I think) shows she held her public persona in high regard where as Crumb couldn't give a sh#t.

weirdly she was an opposite of him. He was also against experimental vax and she wasn't.
It's more an interview with Aline Kominsky than with Crumb.
The king of comics!
The heading should be changed to…an interview with Ailene, and, R. Crumb. 🙄
I admire Crumb, mostly, for not committing murder.
I agree with Mr. Crumb. Books are a MUCH better way to experience an artists work than hanging it on a wall.
Boy, some of the worst camera and audio. And it's AP?
Love Crumb.
i own a small cartoon drawing of his, left behind when he was waiting for my boss at the rip off press, 1970
Jeez , i thought i was looking at the late Leonard Nimoy as Mr Crumb ! They do say that everyone in the world has a dopelgammer?
0:49. Looks just like his drawings of himself. R. Crumb was such a part of my early twenties. Thank you, Mr. Crumb
Always nice to hear what R Crumb and Aline have to say. I wanted the interview to go on forever and Aline had just brought up how Deadwood influenced steampunk and you cut it off right there... Thanks for getting this up for us to see.

Deadwood influenced steampunk? thanks for a good laugh! 🤣
my sister (proverbial hippie) used to work for Crumb very early 70s in Montreal. She sold his underground magazines and was allowed to keep a portion. A group of them stayed in an apartment where they printed the mag. Mag had drug prices listed and his comics in them. They said my sis could stay. They'd make a massive pot of soup daily that everyone could share. Door to to apartment had a Pig poster with something relating to cops written on it.
Aline is a wonderful advocate for Robert's work and her inclusion is worthy, but it would also be nice to have a separate interview with Robert alone, as her powerful nature can't help but dominate the conversation, even when promoting Robert.

They are perfect for each other. I really like her. She understands artists.
Airline & Robert look really I've a been admirer of Roberts work since the mid eighties my X girlfriend put me on to his comics she use to have so one of his comics weirdo , I lived in San Francisco use to panhandle on pine & Montgomery I would chat to Maxine his brother got to know him he would give me a couple bucks & we would talk about how Robert took off from America, maxin told me that everyone wanted a piece of Roberts brain so he moved to France but I wished I'd met him amazing artist true eccentric of old timy of America. This a brilliant interview thing I like about Robert he is so honest I really enjoyed this footage , thank you Robert your a genius 🏴☮️👌❤️
The greatest living artist.
I love that the interview starts with the conversation of underwear 😊
I am starting to see the world in a Crumb perspective. Eerie.

he doesn't believe in any of the b.s. or a lot of it. He was also sceptical and against vax mandates. He's politcally incorrect. I'm surprised he even gets this interview.
16:13 - Spare a thought for the cameraperson and their RCS (restless camera syndrome).
R. Crumb eventually over the years, lost most of his social awkwardness, evident in his body language as he interacted with the "helpers" before the interview. Go R. Crumb! Damn you, Jordan Peterson.
@MicahMicahel
2 ай бұрын
why damn Jordan Peterson? Huh? Jordan Peterson said he likes Robert Crumb comics and the Freak Brothers by Gilbert Shelton. He's a Jungian psychiatrist and scientist. Are you against Jungian Psychiatry? Maybe you think Robert Crumb isn't politically incorrect? He would be cancelled in a second if he tried releasing stuff today. The left is completely totalitarian or socially fasciist. Also Crumb was against he experimental medication all leftists were in favour of. He's practically a right winger in American terms. You believe Crumb;s comics aren't completely offensive to leftists? They are anti art nowadays.
That was fun
RIP Aline
A genius
I haven't seen this dude since IFC in the 90s, awsome, I see he got the girl 😊
The successful hero story ❤ To be financially free and iconic going through so much.

Wish we could interview him alone. I love to hear what he thinks. Not what she says he thinks.
Great interview! I wonder about the cut at 29:02. What happened?!
I've always found Robert's work visually weird at best and often disgusting. But the oddest effect i notice is a deep melancholic depression.I'll see a picture i haven't seen to decades and still the depression comes back as strong as ever. It's bizarre!

haha steampunk - "what the hell is that about?!". great interview.
Is there any all timers in the chat/comments? How did it work with the hanky when you sneeze into it and it goes back into the pocket and then later you use it to sneeze into it again in a different place I suppose when does it get cleaned. Was it an end of the day kind of thing?
Will someone please buy that videographer a tripod. Either that he is being jostled by the crowd which needs to be edited out. Otherwise a fascinating interview. Thank you.
The camera angles are so awkward
I think only boomers like me can remember and appreciate Mr Crumb.
Yes Aline always tries to be the center of attention
why would an interviewer not put a mic on so everyone can hear the question? otherwise, mr. crumb is fab.
Pick your sugar. There it is.
Is this an Aline interview or a R.Crumb interview? Asking for a friend….

greatest artist ever! ( norman rockwell, neal adams, s.clay wilson, same graduate class) my only gripe with Robert as with george harrison and Many others is their Absolute Denial and Recognition of how L.S.D. improved their work and Life! I'm not sure if it's their inability to share credit or the stigma of "DRUGS" This is of course a tremendous Disapointment to the Many of us that know and Appreciate the Benefits of this Medicine that could/would Help Humanity and the World! I'd say it's time for Legalization' But it Never Should have been demonizsd in First place.
Art is the externalization of an inner emotional-intellectual need to resolve the conflict of the need not being expressed. My emotional state has got far worse since I developed a bad tremor that has stopped me from drawing. I had to lose it in order to properly evaluate it's functional value.
i wanted to hear what r. crumb had to say , im sure the female ( his spouse ?) is interesting and one day i may go to an interview featuring her ( may as well be this one ) i think its rude and ... well rude for her to take all the questions with her stories and her wit ... i want to hear the author of mr. natural , fritz and monkey wrench gang answer ... i want to hear his stories , i gave up after not to long finding myself yelling at the phone screen to let r. crumb talk , anyway we love you man peace t. davis

I initially thought this too until I realised that it was actually an interview of husband and wife, who are both cartoonists. The video title is misleading. He's got plenty of interviews on his own if ‘the female’ cartoonist's perspective bothers you.

People become discouraged so easily as if they are not privy to some grand body of knowledge. The ugly truth is you have to put in countless hours, years without reward to master any skill.
