Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD)

Intervertebral Disk Disease, or IVDD.
This is a very common condition with dogs like long backs like Dachshunds, and also Frenchies. This condition is the main reason why we keep neurologists around (kidding! Put your reflex hammers down!), and does not always require surgery.
And for those of you that are wondering, yes, the donut was in fact very tasty! I may or may not have eaten 5 or 6 of them for this single video… all in the name of science, of course!

This happened to my dog, a Chihuahua, twice. The second time, he was in pain and I had to have him put down. He was 17 years old, blind with cataracts and had hearing loss. It was not an easy decision to make, and his quality of life was poor. RIP, Foxy.

Our GSD Bridgette had this, back in 2010 i think she was first diagnosed. That's when she first started dragging her hind legs. I've always know it as compreased discs. Eventrually the degeneration got so bad she couldn't use her front legs either and we had to express her bladder. We ended up putting her down. We did see a specialist, but unfortunately, she wasn't a good candidate for surgery. I will say though, doggy wheelchairs are a Godsend! They gave Bridgie at least another year of mobility!

Although as a teacher of physical therapy, I had an hour and a half to explain the same thing, you did just as good a job of me as me in the minute or two that you had. And you were crap load funnier :-)

Unfortunately my dog ended up with this. It was pretty terrible.

I’m constantly afraid of this with my Dixie mix although he’s only 2 1/2 years old. Got him a set of steps for the couch but lil guy refuses to use them 😅

I recommend getting a ramp instead. My 2 doxies preferred it over steps.
