Intersections between Responsible AI and Decoloniality (Morning)

Intersections between Responsible AI and Decoloniality (Colloquium)Advances in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) have been imposing the need for responses from society and institutions around the world, especially as AI applications spread across different sectors, from internet search engines, including applications and software used in health, education, work, public safety and government. At this meeting we bring experts and managers to discuss the issues of responsibility required for the implementation of AI within the understanding of the related aspects of how colonial culture is reflected in AI, as well as in Science and Culture. The objective is to address in an intersectional way the ways in which economic development manifests unequal access to services as well as increases disparities between countries and groups within society. Likewise, the structuring of algorithms and databases tends to under-represent and over-represent groups according to the context, tending to reinforce structural problems linked to prejudices related to race, gender and social status. Thus, the event proposes to reflect the present and future of AI through a decolonial lens, which means how citizens can exercise their autonomy, different groups can express their diversity, governments and institutions can guarantee their sovereignty.
