This song is a literary gift. Paul, in the midst of the recriminations of love, inserted the intellectual gem "the next artery", which is not an element of speech, but a fragment of pure thought that suddenly arises in the mind of the speaking, as he is approaching his home, where presumably the story with her will end. Anyone who is capable of such finesse is certainly a great and true poet.

Great stuff from Interpol, not difficult to guess who the song is about.

Sin dudas es mi canción favorita de Interpol. Tienen muy buenas canciones pero siento que esta está a otro nivel y hay algo en el sonido que me hace sentir identificada con algunas situaciones en mi vida asi que en cierta forma es como que me siento acompañada por ellos.

I see people saying they like this more than the studio version, but I think both are amazing for their own respective reasons. This one has a much clearer tone, but the studio version is great (at least in my opinion) for its very ethereal sounding echoey mix. Either way, absolute banger of a song.

Studio version was recorded in mag tapes, which loved what they did there. This version is also great. I believe there's different occasions where the version will fit better

the bass is up (better), there seems to be a bit more space in the sound (good), but paul's voice is a bit less distinct, but the the recorded version works for me too

Here's the dealio, the recorded version has a depth and a grittiness that this live version does not. The pedals and mixing are just a bit heavier (it's hard to describe). Personally I love how it sounds recorded. I feel like it adds to the anger and confusion of the song, which only makes it better. But that's just me. I appreciate the differentness of this version (especially how the bass is more prevalent) but it adds a different element and changes the initial feeling of the song.

I love how chill they are.

@@bearzdlc2172 in past years yeah, if you watch live stuff from 2017 his voice was awful but now he’s sounding great live, I’ve watched them live in 2019 and 2022 and the difference was huge

There's a rare instance when the live version of a song is better than the studio vers, and I think this is it!

If you haven't heard the AOL sessions they did back in 2007 I highly recommend. I like that version of "Evil" and "Heinrich Maneuver" better than the originals.

This song greatly benefits from being played live. They definitely elevate this version above the album mix holy shit it’s so much better.

Maybe sometimes they are not perfect, but when they reach these peaks no one is able to follow them!

They sound perfect, as usual!! So happy to hear those basslines pop, Daniel's riff, Paul and Brandon both sound amazing and balanced, and Sam is always perfect!

Why is this SO much better than the studio version? So many different elements I am hearing for the first time.

He gets more into it with their new songs more than the old ones.

No band today is able to achieve such musical perfection from the beginning to the end of a song. On the contrary, it is easy and deceptive to hide the musical paucity behind a jam session without a theme.

What happened with the studio version is that they came off the road which is part to the sound the way it came out. The other is the producer and engineer. At post the mix is reviewed by the band, with out being there I can not say. I agree that this is how they should have their songs for this is the next level. I have liked Interpol since the beginning. They capture different artists ideas and projections and make it their own. Paul Banks is so great. Not everyone understands them that makes it better. I rank them with Portishead, Killing Joke, Skinny Puppy, The Cure, The Smiths, bauhas, Radiohead, as some of my favorites

I see that many fans, instead of enjoying this wonderful song, are busy criticizing their way of playing or the mistakes of Paul or the absence of Carlos (it has passed almost ten years friends!) or the incompetence of Fridmann or who knows what else. This is a group that plays professionally from 1998 and has done concerts in all parts of the world, almost always with the sold out (sold out that are costantly recorded in our days too). Do you think that if they were so imperfect as you say, they would have lasted so long or would have been called by the most important radio station in the United States? So, If you believe that was a good fortune for us to meet them, try to abandone your dress of critics and go back to making fans, as long as we can do it (one day, for whatever reason, they might no longer be there)!

Hello AngelicBeatdown, what you say might be worth for the "presumed" incompetence of Fridman in making the album, but what about the criticisms for Carlo's absence (as if someone is to blame today for an event that appened almost ten years ago and to wich, in any case, we should now be accustomed!), or the imaginary errors of Paul in a single performance at the BBC, wich is not a product for sale, but constitutes a real gift for fans?? All this, not to mention anything else, seems to me really stupid!!
