International Leach Sanicruiser Garbage Truck

Фильм және анимация

Up in the small town of Cheyenne Wells Colorado C&L Sanitation still collects all of the residential garbage in the town with this classic truck. According to the driver this truck is about a 1980 which sounds about right. We came up here on Memorial day so we weren't even expecting them to be running so when all of the trucks were just parked in the yard it wasn't to surprising. We got there around 10:30 and just as we were about to leave town we saw the Sanicruiser leave the yard and start picking up cans right by the yard. This driver runs there Loadmaster rear loader on dumpsters in the morning and then gets in the Sanicruiser to do about 50 carts and then that's his whole day. The Sanicruiser packer is one of my all time favorite packers to watch with how unique it's design is and couldn't have been more excited to get to see one still being used in person! Huge thanks to the driver for being so cool with us following him through his route.

This takes me back to the old days of the '90s when we had yellow garbage trucks in South Philly. Those old trash compacter noises. Fascinating.

holy guacamole. This is the kind of thing we as filmers dream about. Some tiny company, out in the middle of nowhere, with an exceptionally maintained, beautiful sounding, classic truck that has never been in front of a camera before. It pains me to think that I had been born a couple years earlier, I would have been able to work on a truck with this same body. The setting goes with the truck perfectly. The dirt alleys and slightly junky homes really give the impression of time traveling back to the 70's or 80's with an HD camera, which couldn't be more ideal in my eyes. I can't say I recognize the green carts, they look like like IPLs/Otto classics plus the weird lid handles. 10/10 video, it's hard to say how this could be better.

Thanks man! Couldn't have been a better area to find a truck like this for all the reasons you mentioned and it was super easy to follow him around the streets and not even have to follow him in the car for long distances at all. Some of the most fun i've had filming a truck so really glad you enjoy and appreciate it. Thanks again!

Those packmasters had a pretty decent design. Very efficient. This one had a good packing cycle as well. Here in Milwaukee, we had the exact same trucks. Brings back memories. cool vid.

I learned on a packer like this it was a 13 yard and then a 17 yard it packed quite good and then I worked on a Garwood it had a single dumping station and was chain driven I remember seeing it when I was a little boy in N.Y. working on it was a treat and brought back so many memories 4 me 😅

Oh that's fantastic!!! For as many times as I've found Sanicruisers rotting in yards around the states I can't recall ever seeing one in action. What an eccentric packing mechanism! It's like watching a steam locomotive where everything that moves is exposed and visible. Glad you documented it for us!

Thank you, really glad you enjoyed this one! I was very surprised to find one of these still being used since I never thought that I would be able to see one of these in person. It's crazy the stuff you can find in some of these small towns out this way if you really look hard enough. I've been finding all sorts of goodies in this part of the country.

When I was on vacations from school I used to work on a few of these. In the late 80s early 90s. 25 yards with MB 600 Mack cab and smaller tilt to dump versions with old Autocar cab. I would have to say I preferred the 2R when it came to packing out a big load. Those bar and clamp push out systems were a pain in the neck when they weren't working properly though.

Damn, brings me back to working summers in early 80's. Leach 2-R were the workhorse of the the fleet but City had a few 70's trucks as well and the Sanicruiser wasn't bad. City also had a leftover Garwood Dual-Blade rearloader.................horrible to work on that truck. Eventually it was scrapped for another 2-R

Great work! Awesome find for sure! Take away the high quality camera and some of the carts and I would be convinced this was filmed in the 70s/80s! Everything about it was perfect, to the old barrels, the background objects, sleepy little town...it fits so well. The packer on is very neat to watch! Amazing to see it in action. The driver looks fresh off the putting green lol Thanks for catching this!

The 2RII was the best body Leach ever put out though. The single hopper handle can't compare to the user friendly two handle hoppers as far as easily packing a big load.
