Interlude/Dance No.1 from LA VIDA BREVE by Manuel de Falla (Audio + Score)
Музыка
Composed by: Manuel de Falla (1876-1946)
Year composed: 1913
Performed by: Ernest Ansermet cond/ L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande
La vida breve (Life is Short or The Brief Life) is an opera in two acts and four scenes by Manuel de Falla to an original Spanish libretto by Carlos Fernández-Shaw. Local (Andalusian) dialect is used. The first performance was given (in a French translation by Paul Millet) at the Casino Municipal in Nice on 1 April 1913. Paris and Madrid performances followed, later in 1913 and in 1914 respectively.
Only an hour long, the complete opera is seldom performed today, but its orchestral sections are, especially the act 2 music published as Interlude and Dance, which is popular at concerts of Spanish music. (Fritz Kreisler in 1926 arranged for violin and piano the dance from this pairing under the spurious title Danse espagnole.) Indeed the opera is unusual for having nearly as much instrumental music as vocal: act 1, scene 2 consists entirely of a short symphonic poem (with distant voices) called Intermedio, depicting sunset in Granada; act 2, Scene 1 includes the above-referenced Danza and Interludio, with the latter ending the scene, i.e. in the opposite sequence to the excerpted pairing; and act 2, scene 2 begins with the a second and longer Danza (with vocal punctuation).

What a beautiful music! Amazing orchestration, the perfect master!
If I'm lucky I'll experience this extraordinary music soon in a great venue. It's such a wonderful piece. Thanks for upload.
Omg! Amazing💛❤💙
Amazzzzing! Do you have any plans to upload the full opera?
El más grande del SIGLO XX junto a Stravinsky...!!!
Whaaaat I just listened to the beginning and it doesn’t sound like the Falla I know haha. Very romantic, in a “German” way, very Wagnerian. I wonder if he wrote this when he was still young

What orchestration is this? It is very lovely. I have the original score and does not sound or look like this. It is a straight forward non transposing 3/8. Two harps glockenspiel, chellesta and lots of triangle. I like this arrangement. I'm working on a reduction of my own.

I guess the trombones didn't turn up for the recording..?

They weren't getting any good parts anyway... horns have a way better time
You must have a great VST library. I found this section at the of " Danza". Mine don't sound as good though.

@@tomekkobialka Sorry, I saw the score and thought it had been entered into a notation software and played back as a mockup. No wonder it sounded so great. I write on Sibelius and use NotePerformer3. So my orchestrations and arrangements don't sound quite this good. Thank you for posting the score. I'm writing a reduction for a smaller orchestra but was lost on the corrected score as published. Apparently is not played as written. It starts on page 220 sub rehearsal 25 to page 228 Rehearsal D, then jumps to page 150 on the actual start of Danza all the way to the end of Act II Scene I. And as usual for this period is a non transcription score. Thanks for the score.

@@eddygonzalez6018 No worries. :) And yes, putting together the score for this video was a bit of a jigsaw puzzle.
