Misophonia isn't hating hearing people breathe, it's "the hatred of sounds" and the sounds hated can be varied from person to person. I have mild misophonia and I can't stand when people smack their mouths while talking.

@@niniwhi It sounds like you have it. If you look up misophonia, it says it's usually self-diagnosable and you can find websites about the symptoms. I haven't gotten an official diagnosis, but I know how angry mouth smacking makes me (I hate kissing sounds too). Through research and talking about it with others, it was enough for me to realize how uncommonly strong my reaction is and to diagnose myself. I do want to clarify that I usually think it's best to get a professional diagnosis for disorders when you need help, like how I was officially diagnosed with ADHD. But misophonia isn't something that usually needs treatment and it's not really something to appropriate the way people appropriate stuff like OCD.

Repeatedly hearing someone smack their mouth is like an unpleasant physical sensation that jolts up my spine. I'll often have my face flush, grit my teeth, clench or claw my fingers, and shake if the speaker smacks a lot. My sisters hated trying to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer with me because of my strong negative reactions to the disgusting make-out session smooching sounds.

A significant part of our sense of taste is effected by smell anyway (for example did you know that without smell you would not be able to taste the difference between biting into an apple and biting into an onion!) so the fact that they smell different does legitimately make them taste different even if they don’t have actual separate flavourings

If yall want an actual explanation then ill put it lower in this comment Okay, misophonia is a neurophysiological disorder (that means our brains are different) that makes certain sounds (breathing, smacking, tapping chewing) stand out more to us and trigger our fight-or-flight response. It developes anywhere between 8-13 (different for everyone in development and severity, so it isint completely correct) years old and is chronic. Misophonia is often found as the Fear of certain sounds but that is not true. A misophoniac can have very varying feelings from getting triggered or hearing a triggering noise some less severe reactions A need to flee Uncomfortability not being able to ignore the sound Some more severe ones are wanting to self harm or harm the person making the trigger noise Aggression Panic / anxiety attacks If you want to do more research, find someone online that actually has the disorder, most times there are actual people trying to debunk false symptoms and explanations. It is a real disorder, and it deserves to be treated like one.
