This is actually me. I just learnt this today. I've been blinded for over 10 years. Edit: I've been doing it for over a month now! It works guys!

Some of these feel like when a toddler tips a cup too far and juice goes down their shirt. "Oh! When I tip it this far, I get wet, but if I only tip it THIS far I stay dry!" Teenagers come programmed to think they know everything but the fact that they're still learning ("whoa! a rearview mirror has a tab to dim the headlights behind me!") is actually really cute to see. Not quite as cute as a surprised toddler with a wet shirt, but almost!

“Break a leg” actually refers to giving such a thunderous performance that one of the “legs” or struts supporting the stage breaks. It originates at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London.

Actually, break a leg, is refering to the "stage legs" which are the small curtains that line either side of the stage and when you walk out on stage passed them, they flutter and it's call breaking a leg because of that.

That first girl needs to do some research: “break a leg” is not because they want you to be in a cast (sic). It might come from Yiddish or Ancient Greece or Elizabethan theatre (see Google). Sand is not ‘sea and land’, it comes from the Dutch word zand which means finer than gravel/thicker than dust. “Hold your horses” does not mean to remain stable, it means to hold the rein and tighten it so you slow the horse down. It might also be a form of torture from the 17th century but it’s unlikely. Most words and phrases are complex in origin and descend from other languages, historical events or malapropisms.

The world will end by doing something wrong but it's really the worst that they get for you too and the fact it's worth you!

I’m sorry to be that person but For the first one, it actually came from the older days of theater, when the only way you would get paid (and hence got to eat) was to go on stage. The side curtains are called leg curtains, and hence they where basically saying “break the leg curtains” ie, get on stage.

I thought because well actors in a theater are called Casts. So when you break a leg you get to be in the Cast. That and its was superstitious to say Good luck so they said something bad for good luck. Those are the reason it's called a Cast.
