It says something about our society that we'd rather have trash in the streets than just pay people what they're asking for.

This isn't about pay but an issue in France where people can retire at 62. Most EU countries have pensions starting at around 65. Adding two years before retirement would just mean people will retire at 64 which is still pretty young and one year sooner than the average in the EU. I'm not French but I'm someone used to talk and work with French people (probably upper-middle class) everyday and their overall opinion is that it's a bit sad Macron had to use the 49.3 but the pension reform is necessary for their children's future (or themselves) as currently a lot of money is flowing from young workers to retired people. Young educated working men and women are usually in favor of the law but against the use of the "49.3" (stuff that Macron used to push the bill through a bit undemocratically). If you want the opinion I've heard from close northern countries (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg), it's that the French are lazy *** (their words) and should shut their trap because retiring at 64 is still really early. I'm personally extremely fed up with the strikes. Protest as much as you want but don't take it against other citizens. Piling up trash in the middle of Paris is unsanitary and shameful as well as hurting restaurants, tourism and the people living in there. People have paid for these services, it's not their fault Macron passed a bill!

The victorian era baby photo shows just how far we've come as a society. Modern baby photos without adults are done by just cutting a hole in the background and having the parent hold the baby upright from behind the background by sticking their arm through the hole. Because the adults arm is behind the baby the camera doesn't see it.
