Interested in Sonography? Ultrasound FAQ with a very SPECIAL Sonographer! Tips + Advice

ULTRASOUND FAQ | SONOGRAPHY LIFE | SONOGRAPHER | ULTRASOUND TECHNOLOGIST
What's up KZread family! Welcome back to another video!! Thank you so much for clicking on this video. If you are new here, hello and welcome! I strive to spread PAWSitivity, ultrasound awareness, and just overall good vibes! I hope you find something fun, useful, and helpful on my channel! Nice to meet you!
Today's video is a SPECIAL one. I introduce to you the REASON why I joined ultrasound. The PERSON who showed me what ultrasound was. And an INSPIRATION in my life. She helped me through my college journey, she watched me grow, and is still in my life today. She is an ultrasound technologist of six years and currently is registered under RDMS and RVT. She has experience in an outpatient and hospital setting, and she also has two jobs! We try to answer your guys' questions to the best of our availability, and we just have an open and honest conversation about the ultrasound world. If you're curious about what we talk about, I have time stamps below. From intimidation to ultrasound pay, we talk about it! These are questions you've asked us! So grab a snack, sit back, and relax... while you find out more about the world of ultrasound!
Today's advice: keep on researching, keep on asking questions, and do what's best for you. Weigh out your pros and cons, list the things you want and expect in the next 5-10 years, and set goals that are achievable! Remember to be honest with yourself, with others, and to always look at the PAWSitive side of things! Life is already hard, don't make it harder for yourself.
If you happen to enjoy this video, I'd appreciate it if you LIKED it and SUBSCRIBE to the channel for more fun adventures! I would love to have you join the SonoGes family. Every single one of you means so much to me! As always, take care, be safe, stay PAWSitive, be KIND, and we'll see you in the next one! XOXO, Ges.

  • @catchingflightswithjay

    @catchingflightswithjay

    3 жыл бұрын

    This is a great question! I’ve always gone back and forth with this myself because I started outpatient whereas others started at the hospital. As a new grad, start at any place you are offered a position whether that be in an outpatient or hospital setting because any experience is great experience in the beginning. However, after having worked at the hospital, I feel that you will learn more pathology vs. outpatient because you will be scanning patients who are there for higher level of care. If you ever get the chance to do both, you’ll get to experience both sides and overall become a solid tech.

  • @lolgeselle

    @lolgeselle

    Morgan, each place is different and has different aspects to it, as Janessa said! She started off in outpatient. And I started off in hospital. It’s all about where you learned and what you’re comfortable with! Thank you for supporting and don’t hesitate to ask anything! We’re here for ya! ❤️

    Do per-diem get any medical benefits/PTO?

  • @catchingflightswithjay

    @catchingflightswithjay

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello! Unfortunately most per diem techs (in any place of work) will not be offered medical benefits which is why I think hourly wages are higher for them so that they can pay for their own. Per diems also do not accrue PTO as they technically can create their own schedules or are called in to work “as needed.”

  • @lolgeselle

    @lolgeselle

    3 жыл бұрын

    Espi, she’s right! I, as a per diem tech do not get medical benefits or PTO. But she, as a full tome tech, does! The only benefit I get is the option to have a 401k and even then not all per diem places offer that! So it all depends on the place of work 😌

    I also live in Vegas and I’m applying for the ultrasound program next year. I’m thinking of doing outpatient, but out of curiosity which hospital is hard to get into (that you were talking about in the video)? I’m doing shadowing at the Centennial hills hospital soon!

  • @lolgeselle

    @lolgeselle

    3 жыл бұрын

    That's awesome! Good luck on your journey. Outpatient is good too! There's a few hospitals that are hard to get into, St. Rose, UMC, Mountain View, Southern Hills, Sunrise, and smaller standing ERs. I'd say Valley hospitals and outpatient facilities are easier to get into. Centennial is awesome!! Have fun! :)

    Thank you for this video, as someone going into school for sonography who smokes, I was wondering if you would be comfortable talking about how frequently you get drug tested on the job. Also just so it's been said I would never practice on patients high.

    Hi Shayna!! I’ve only been drug tested twice… and at the beginning of being hired. Never been tested since. So I’m not too sure how often people even really get tested! Maybe that’s something you can ask in a sonography Facebook group to get more feedback🤗

    Hi, I’m currently taking prerequisites for medical school. I’m thinking of going into sonography. I was wondering if there’s a lots of physics and maths(pre cal) included in the sonography program? I’m not that good at physics. Please if you could share some info about the program. I would really appreciate it!

    Hi! Oo that’s awesome! There’s usually 1-2 physics classes and 1-2 math classes included depends on the program you apply to. I have a video about ultrasound school info and the classes you may have to take , but depending on if you go toward an associates (2 year) or a bachelors (4 year) program.. you will take your basic math and basic physics classes and then for sure an ultrasound physics class! Hope this helps!

Do you think getting a certificate will lower your chance to get a job than others who have an associate or bachelor degree? Thank you. Greeting from Texas

    Hi Xuyen!! Im happy to hear it’s an accredited program! I don’t think it will lower your chance. Just remember to have your ARDMS board exam registries (SPI, abdomen, vascular, obgyn etc), and make good connections, network, be prepared to be a good student and get close to your preceptors and mentors, and they will be the ones who help you find a job! You got this! 🤍

    Hi! Having more registries can give you a little raise but not much. Many people make the same as others with one registry or even more registries. Depending on where you work, hospital or outpatient, cost of living in the city, and your experience will determine your pay range.

    How does per diem work? Do you work once a week? Do they pay double on per diem?

  • @lolgeselle

    @lolgeselle

    3 жыл бұрын

    As a per diem, you get more opportunity with your schedule. You tell them when you are available. You are not obligated to work. You are "as needed" and fill in for full-timers when they are PTO or when they call out, as well as if it's busy and they need extra help you can come in. They usually pay much higher as a per diem because there most likely will not be benefits attached to the contract.

  • @lolgeselle

    @lolgeselle

    3 жыл бұрын

    As far as "once a week" that's the beauty of per diem. If a place allows you to work once or twice a week, you can. It depends on the contract of where you work, for instance I work at an outpatient facility which requires 2 days a week. Then I schedule the hospital around that.
