Actually, Tommy has the perfect security planned for these "physical products" and their ID codes: they'll never be on store shelves in the first place. Can't steal the codes if there's no place to buy em!

2022 is when someone will datamine and figure out that the Amico ownership doesn't actually run on NFTs, at which point Intellivision will put out a video claiming they were just trolling the haters, and NFT in this context always meant New Friend Tommy, because anyone who buys an Amico game is Tommy's new friend.

Another thing that people don't mention. A lot of these folks promoting and shilling the Amico? They don't realize that they are violating the FTC Guidelines themselves. The FTC states on their site "Disclose when you have any financial or personal or family relationship with a brand. Don't assume your followers already know about your brand relationships. Not doing so is a violation of the FTC Guidelines." And a lot of these folks are being sent free Amico hats, Amico t-shirts, etc. or are investors themselves...and yet they don't mention that in their videos.

"People that can't afford shirts but can afford to blow $10,000 on Intellivision" hmmm I wonder who Pat could be referring to! 😆

I am really curious to see what his old co-host and friend Victor Lucas will end up saying about all of this in the end. I am a fan of Victor's and feel he is a truly genuine person. During a livestream of his I brought up the Amico and he said that he did not want to speak on that at the moment.

It really is nice to see someone like Jenovi give his raw impressions. YET, even with that, even with someone being real and honest, some Amicommunists still attack the guy on not being "up to date" with every single piece of Amico news. I thought the market was Mom and Dad of today? Are they up to date with the Amico? Do they even know it exists? What does being up to date even have to do with "impressions" when opening a package? They are cheap and flimsy, that's it. These zealots are 100% part of the problem, not Jenovi or Pat/Ian who criticize with facts. Tommy literally spent 10 plus minutes talking about what "limited edition" meant in his unboxing video, can never just give a simple, direct answer, only to say there will be something "special" for owners digitally on the console. He had to gall to say "nobody asked me this", as if people never asked what does limited edition get you on AtariAge and social media commentary. So being vague will really bring on more sales because a digital item will be waiting for you. Oh how special! You would think that would be something to market, printed on the back of the box or include a slip of paper in the "limited edition" informing customers what they will receive for their hard earned dollars. Nah, Tommy thinks less information is better, but someone like Jenovi should be "up to date" on vague/non-information coming from the People's Republic of Intellivision Company themselves. 🤡

Didn't Sam M from Ars Technica on how he broke into the Devs Portal that show the specs of the console and it was easy to get into and finding out more about this scummy SCAM console. That's how it shows you that Amico website is easily hackable and be able to get all those RFID codes and probably would sell it back to hardcore Amico Fans.

There wasn't any 'breaking in'. It was wide open and basically a search index bot archived it. Even worse.

A brute force to attempt different ID numbers for each game is trivial. Someone is completely going to do that.

@Lassi Kinnunen 81 There's only 10 numbers in our base 10 counting system and if there's one thing computers are good at, it's counting things very quickly. Now, they'd have to count _slow quickly_ as trying 50,000 codes might overload the 486 they set up as the "server".

The fact that the "boxes" won't even stay closed once the shrink wrap is removed should tell you they were never designed to be opened in the first place. IE expected them to sit on a shelf for display purposes (also explains why the RFID card has no security). That or the person who designed them is an incompetent idiot with no knowledge product packaging...

My headcanon is that Tommy wanted the Coleco Amico, but _something_ happened and he didn't want his product associated with a scam. ...Because he's running one and wanted a clean record.

Not sure how these could be sold in Canada. Games that require downloads for some of the content has to have a warning put on the outside the front of the case. If no actual game in inside, that also needs to be on the case as well.

Also, the Amico just so happens to be missing a few mission critical things. Like that little label on the back of my keyboard even though it doesn't do radio communications, still gives it a classification as an electronic product. Like ICES or NMB?

Either the keys are unique. In which case they can be stolen and used up without even leaving the store. Or the keys are not unique. In which case anyone with the url can get the game without buying it. Either way, I can't imagine Gamestop will be happy about carrying the Amico. Also, no way in hell these games will have anything to do with NFTs.

Should have just released another plug n play, the initial intellivison flashbacks have gotten expensive.

Website link means they have no hope of stopping bad actors, all attacks can be easily automated. Printed code means having a photo of someone else's games (like on ebay) can become yours, like how you can get Windows activation codes from used computer listings.

Servers not being finished yet adds another interesting wrinkle. People will post unboxing videos before they have a chance to claim the game. I just got Finnigan Fox from someone who seemed to know to cover the code but wasn't fast enough. What happens to them when the infrastructure turns on but I am the first to load the URL? It doesn't even require someone to be near the game to steal it.

I'm surprised that there's actually a download for the games. I thought all the games would be preloaded and the card would just be an unlock code.

I've watched this video several times on the Amico playlist, but this is the first time I noticed the ESRB rating on the boxes. Firstly, why would they put an ESRB rating on a product that technically is not a game? Secondly, how was the ESRB able to rate the games shown on the box? Are the games actually done? Perhaps Tommy fraudulently put the rating on the box before submitting a game to the ESRB?

Now I'm not only looking forward to this week's "Tommy" call, but also next week's call too already. I can also see Tommy going to jail for this eventually and hope that "Tommy" keeps calling with updates about his new roommate and their time together.

Ahhh yes my favorite segment.

@@thegamelibrarian1681 The only thing hackers would get from scanning the RFIDs or hacking the Intellivision database is to get the download codes. Even if the games existed and you could download them, most of the games already exist in some form on other platforms and unless someone is out there building an Amico emulator, they would still be worthless until the hardware comes out. That's a lot of trouble to go through for a bunch of mobile quality shovelware for a console that may never come out.

Dude even Nintendo knew to make sure the NFC chip wasn’t readable in the Amiibo packaging.

I just dont get why being a fan of the product still drives sales when the buy is so egregiously bad. I am the biggest PS1 fan; it is my favorite system. Did I buy the PS classic? Absolutely not, not even with the price drop.

You can tell it's a scam by the wording.

I was on the Intellivision mailing list because I ordered controller inserts from them back when they released the Intellivision Flashback years ago. I was onboard with the Amico because I only knew Tommy as a guy on G4TV who was a big Tron fan. I would have been one of those suburban dads who would have preordered the Amico. But I knew about the Coleco Chameleon; That’s what made me not pull the trigger on the Amico.

Tommy T the CEO of a company that is selling IOUs of so called "physical products" that could be games sometime down the road. I agree with Pat that this is indeed insane that the RFID cards are not encrypted at all which could lead to a disaster waiting to happen as Pat mentions @12:26 with people using a random RFID scanner to steal the codes for the games and having the NTF feature kick in more than it should. WHAT THINGS could exist that mitigate that issue with out explanation Tommy? I think Tommy is a joke at this point because he seems like he doesn't care if anyone steals codes for games that his company is trying to sell.

Wow! It just keeps getting weirder and weirder.

At this point Tommy should've called it quits but didn't for fear of being sued "now" so instead he keeps it going so he's only sued "later"

Imagine if Pat had done a podcast every dayfrom 1997 to 2011 leading up to Duke Nukem Forever...this is what it feels like with the Amico LOL

I assumed they would at least have included rfid shielding in the packaging like Amiibo. I did have a feeling all along though that the rfid feature in general would complicate the hell out of transferring ownership. Even more so if the code is written on the card. The problem is you can't just buy the game used. It sounds like the original owner needs to do something to transfer the digital game to you. I also have to wonder how many people accidentally leaked a game code doing an unboxing.

Well, you know. If anything that Tommy has claimed up to this point about how it works is even anywhere close to reality. TT is the kind of guy that if he said the sky was blue, I'd have to take a moment to double check, yeah?

A great point that you guys made is that if Evercade can make a physical product with a nice case, a full color manual and an actual cartridge, what is Tommy's excuse? Oh wait, he has no excuse because he is a snake oil salesman.

This console is the one last splash chance for Tommy and others to make a good chunk of money. I had snapdragon in my cheap no name cell phone 10years ago..

at this point I may owe Tommy some money for all the entertainment the Amico has been providing me with. Not because its a great system with great games, but because listing to Pat and Ian talk about it all the failures and sketchy behavior has been great!

I suspect that Intellivision will add some extra band-aid authentication for these "boxed editions" e.g. provide your store order number after scanning the card.

I knew that this exact code issue was going to be a thing the moment the info came up. This is completely amateurish. I also don’t get what’s so hard or expensive about making your physical media actually physical. Put it on a proprietary SD card style format and call it done. Sure, we could debate the levels at which piracy would be a concern doing that, but at least if you buy the physical product you can be certain that it’ll work.

You got one thing wrong though - Downloading the game doesn't invalidate the code.

So that would mean if hypothetically, someone were to post said code online, anyone could basically boomerang a game onto their console for free.

@@XanthinZarda Yeah. Download, then unplug. If everyone does that, there's not limit to how many that can use the game.

It seems to me currently that stealing the games according to the methods discussed here would take more time and effort than playing them.

You think that stealing codes and posting them on a site like G2A and getting free money... Would be too much trouble... For free money? People literally use way more complex methods to steal codes from other stores. What are you talking about.
