Integrated Reporting Explained

The International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) defines integrated reporting as, "a process founded on integrated thinking that results in a periodic integrated report by an organization about value creation over time.”
Integrated thinking is when a company considers the relationship between its business model and the different types of resources it uses to create value in the short, medium, and long term.
Accounting financial statements provide a limited view of the company’s health and value creation process. Integrated reporting shows not just the profit but the impact on stakeholders and the environment. Accounting financial statements tell you about value created in the past, but integrated reporting tells you how value will be created in the future.

Really great video. Thank you ❤️ I’m from South Africa and studying a CA(SA) degree. Auditing and Financial Accounting stress the importance of integrated reporting repetitively.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! In my research for this video, I noticed that South Africa is at the forefront of integrated reporting. It looks like more countries will be following South Africa's lead

Hiya Michael, great summary video! I did have to have a small laugh at the Escom example as a model of integrated reporting. With all the corruption and negative impact that governance and operations have had on the everyday South African's (280 load shedding days for year to March 2023 ) their report is not a shining light of the value of IR.

With IR now a component of ISSB, do you anticipate the sustainability ESG, CSR history will win out over the non financial integrated reporting?
